This is the Busted Open Podcast.
Our latest guest BRG. Brett Ryan Gosling, you sir, are in D spotlight this week, and you are television ready. Welcome to the show, bud.
Thank you for having me, Tommy. It's uh an absolute pleasure to be on your show.
Should I call you BRG, notorious BRG? What
do you prefer? So everyone just refers to me as BRG. Um, you know, Vic Victorious BRG is the nickname, Brett Ryan Gossum is the real name, but you can just call me BRG just to make things a little bit. It's victorious. Victorious. Yeah, that's why we got Sweet Victory as the theme. I mean, Spongebob for that amazing song, that's for sure.
Well, that's a little bit before my time. Have not watched one episode of Spongebob.
Oh, you're missing out. It's really good. Especially that that's like a fan favorite episode, if anything.
Fryick, is there a Freilick on that show? Someone used to say I looked like s uh cartoon character on and I thought it was from that show. Anyway, who cares? This is about you and your spotlight, not stupid SpongeBob who's apparently way more over than both of you and I will ever be. All right, let's talk to you. Uh what the hell, how did you fall in love with this crazy thing called pro wrestling?
Who is BRG and what is his wrestling nickname?
Oh my god. Uh professional wrestling was something that I despised growing up. Uh my father was never a huge fan of it and that nobody in my family was ever a fan of it. It wasn't until I started hanging out with my friends down the street. When I walked upstairs and we were just hanging out and I saw that they had a bunch of wrestling action figures. And I asked them, You guys like this stuff? I was like, This is kind of lame and all this. And they're like, No, it's awesome, it's amazing. And then they start showing me. Uh right around 2010, 2011, that's when I started really getting into it. It wasn't until January of twenty eleven where I really started watching it full time. I started watching SmackDown and the first ever main event that I ever watched was Edge and Kelly Kelly versus Dolph Ziggler and Lay Cool.
for the world heavyweight championship because it was on the line that night. And they left it off with a cliffhanger where Kelly Kelly ended up getting fired. And I was hook hooked right then. I was like, I gotta tune in next week to see what happens. And another reason was uh Edge was probably one of the coolest guys that I'd ever seen. I was a angsty thirteen year old at the time. You know, I loved rock and roll music and he just screamed as someone that I wanted to be when I got older. It wasn't until WrestleMania twenty seven that year when I watched him and Alberto Del Rio wrestle for the World Heavyweight Championship in the opening match where I decided Hey, I wanna do this. And I it can't come soon enough.
So fast forward two years later, uh I was a hockey player my entire life and I ended up getting Cut for my high school hockey team. And I told my parents, I'm like I'm old enough to start training at this place up in Moon Socket. Would you guys mind driving me up there every week to try and to start training? Because I wanted to s stay somewhat ath doing something athletic during my time away from hockey. So I figure why not try pro wrestling? And from December of twenty thirteen up until Now it's just been a wild ride of Pretty much going through my teenage years, my college years, and then post college years, just having this wonderful world of professional wrestling. Essentially not only grow up with me, but help me grow up in a few instances.
Well, let's take it back. First of all, Kelly Kelly gets fired on the first match and then the first WrestleMania after Edge wins, he retires. You've crushed it people's hopes and dreams for your last f your first two matches.
Yeah. I it's that was the bittersweet part when it came to Edge retiring and everything, is like who who do I root for now? And at that point, the two people that I
