The Clare Byrne Show with me Ciara Doherty.

11.386 - 28.114 Eoin Sheahan

A reminder that today is Wish Day for Make-A-Wish. We want to make this the biggest week yet for Make-A-Wish and we're asking you to dig deep if you can and donate whatever you can online at makeawish.ie forward slash donate. Here's a little reminder of what your donation actually means.

I'm hugely into horse riding and show jumping particularly, and I also did camogie.

Chapter 2: How does personal experience shape sports involvement?

35.102 - 56.11 Unknown

I felt a little unfit for the amount that I was doing. I was told they were pretty sure that it was this lymphoma and they weren't sure exactly if it was Hodgkin's or non-Hodgkin's. It was really just like disbelief. Make a wish. It's something that gets mentioned fairly early to kind of say, and look, you might have something good to look forward to as well.

Chapter 3: What is the significance of the Masters golf tournament this weekend?

56.782 - 76.861 Unknown

I always knew it was going to come back to something related to horses. Cian is so busy with going all over the world on international show jumping. You know, it was hard to pin down a time. But the great thing about it, it wasn't just to meet him. It was for him to actually give a training session with Isabel's own pony.

Chapter 4: What are the key matchups in the Premier League this weekend?

77.542 - 90.041 Unknown

And she was able to go up there. It was just fantastic. She deserved every bit of it. I got to ring the bell at the end of my treatment. So that was in January of 2024.

Chapter 5: How are Arsenal and Manchester City performing ahead of their match?

90.161 - 93.657 Unknown

It was just overcome by emotion.

94.767 - 114.345 Eoin Sheahan

And a lovely reminder there why we've decided to get behind Make-A-Wish this week. And we encourage you to dig deep this week and particularly today, as you have done in record numbers this morning to support that wonderful charity. Now, to preview all of the big sporting action this weekend, I'm joined by Eoin Sheehan from Off The Ball. Eoin.

I have a large Masters-shaped hole in my life this weekend, although I am happy to get my life back because I lost four days of my life to Rory McIlroy last weekend. Help me, Philip.

0

126.666 - 136.703 Philip

I know. Like, the thing with the golf, though, is that it is unbelievably time-consuming. That if you're into a whole heap of sport, you could have spent all of Saturday afternoon, all of Sunday afternoon watching it last weekend.

0

Chapter 6: What are the stakes in the Merseyside derby between Liverpool and Everton?

137.023 - 140.569 Philip

And then you're like, OK, there's another five or six hours still to come tonight. So...

0

140.549 - 158.052 Philip

you can be a productive human being this weekend would be my message to anybody who got too engrossed in the Masters last weekend it's mostly just daytime sport this week where you have the rugby and the football and the Gaelic games all going head to head the three major sports as I always say at this time of the year April and May is when they're all kind of reaching fever pitch

0

158.032 - 171.679 Eoin Sheahan

at lovely, reasonable hours of the day. I don't have to stay up till one o'clock in the morning as I did last weekend. So let's start with the Premier League to this really, I think, crucial match tomorrow, actually. It'll be fascinating to watch Arsenal take a non-city.

0

171.939 - 180.016 Philip

Yeah, exactly. So this game, I wouldn't necessarily have overly high hopes for this as an aesthetic piece of entertainment, but... But it's unbelievably high stakes.

0

Chapter 7: What should we expect from the Women's World Cup qualifying match?

180.337 - 194.974 Philip

Arsenal's form has been poor in recent weeks. Manchester City have hit their straps and they look to be back to near their irresistible best, as we've seen in recent years under Pep Guardiola. They were amazing last week, I thought, in the second half against Chelsea, whereas Arsenal were desperate against Bournemouth.

0

194.954 - 204.095 Philip

Arsenal have also had to play a midweek game against Sporting, had to grind out a nil-all draw to qualify for the Champions League semi-finals. So Manchester City, you'd have to say, are strong favourites for Sunday's game.

0

Chapter 8: What are the highlights of the upcoming GAA matches this weekend?

204.516 - 217.743 Philip

However, Arsenal will do on Sunday what they are very comfortable doing, which is parking the bus, trying to play for a draw, trying to be reductive in how they play football. And I think they'll get a free pass for that on Sunday. There's been lots of criticism in terms of how they play against a team such as Bournemouth.

0

218.163 - 228.879 Philip

I think it's totally acceptable to go to the Etihad and try and kill the game as a spectacle. They don't care about what your sports watching looks like here on Sunday. They will hope that you're trying to turn channel, in fact, and watch the GEA instead.

0

229.019 - 234.107 Eoin Sheahan

So they're going to try and grind out another win for us. I mean, a draw.

0

234.788 - 237.752 Philip

They will absolutely take a draw on Sunday. No question about it.

0

237.732 - 257.455 Eoin Sheahan

I mean, it's interesting I have to say this narrative around Arsenal because I remember you and I talking on the hard shoulder in October, November and December about Arsenal. Would they do it? Would they hold on? Would they have the confidence to see this through? Would they implode? I mean, we're into, what, April now. They're still six points clear in the league.

257.475 - 267.587 Eoin Sheahan

They've got through to the semi-final of the Champions League and yet they're not making any of these wins easy. You still don't have any of this great confidence or excitement around this team.

267.567 - 281.453 Philip

No, I actually think they're getting worse as the season goes on, unfortunately. I think there's been a few crucial injuries in their attack in particular, not having the likes of Bakayo Saka and Martin Odegaard, although the latter of those two was actually dropped before his injury, has not helped them whatsoever.

281.473 - 298.097 Philip

I don't think Mikel Arteta knows his best attack at the moment and they've started to concede goals as well. If they are going to win this Premier League title, they will fall over the line. There's no question about it. If they are to beat Atletico Madrid in the Champions League final, they'll have to put in their best performance since maybe Aston Villa in the middle of Christmas.

298.518 - 314.82 Philip

I don't see either of those two things as being overly likely. However, I think they are still capable of getting a draw on Sunday and then they will still maintain that six-point lead over Manchester City and City will only have one game in hand. So this is a huge game for Manchester City as well. They need to win this and there is a pressure on them. To be contenders. Yes.
