Now dressing for weddings. Oh, Eva Donegan, it's not easy, is it? What to wear? How to get it just right? How not to annoy the bride? How not to clash with other guests? And it's wedding season.
It is wedding season, Ciara. And when that invite comes in, the first thing is we think of is what are we going to wear? And I think it has become harder than, let's say, it was 20 years to pull a look together. Why do you say that? I think that, I mean, first of all, I think there is this kind of thing that we need to have kind of newness all the time. And there's also the big fear of turning up looking like somebody else, because if we think about algorithm dressing, we're all being fed, you know, the same thing. So if you put into your your Instagram or TikTok or whatever wedding dresses and Instagram will serve you the most popular posts. And sometimes we'll see, let's say, a dress and somebody's wearing it and the shoes in the bag.
And we kind of panic and we kind of go. Oh, is that the right thing to wear? So in a panic, we almost go off and buy it, whether we kind of like it or not. So then there's the fear and you get there and there's kind of three other people wearing the same thing. And all of a sudden it doesn't feel so special anymore. So whereas I think before we used to take a lot more inspiration from magazines, people on the street. And so Instagram can sometimes create a look that other people may have.

And that's fine if it suits you. But if you know, we want to feel a bit special when we go to an event. So really, you need to learn to beat the algorithm, don't you? It's all about beating the algorithm. And, you know, I think it's it's it's actually I mean, algorithm gives you trends and trends are OK if you like it. You know, if you like a simple leopard dress, why not go for it? But I think what I, certainly what I do when I get an invite for a big event is, well, first there's a bit of panic that goes on and I think I want to go out shopping and then I do probably do some doom scrolling. But the biggest thing I say to people is look at what's in your wardrobe first, right? Because you know, you and I, we all have big wardrobes and there's always something there.
And you might think that, that, you know, Mary remembers what you wore three years ago. She actually doesn't. And now it's almost a badge of honour to to say, oh, I actually bought that a few years ago and I'm wearing it again. So have a deep look inside sometimes as well. What I do personally is that I love separates because when I buy You know, if you spend money on a fabulous pink skirt, there are so many different tops that you can wear with that. So sometimes I'll go into my wardrobe and I do have said pink skirt and I wear it lots of different ways or I will look at accessories.
So is that a better investment, do you think? Because the problem, I think, when you get that wedding invite is that you end up spending money on this one item that you wear once.
Yes, exactly.
And then it feels like a waste and then you're more reluctant to do it when the next invite comes in.
Yeah. And also back to the algorithm dressing. If you're there on a Wednesday and the wedding Saturday and this dress keeps popping up on your Instagram feed, you almost convince yourself you like it. And you there you are in Dundrum and you're there buying the same thing. But the thing is, if you look in your wardrobe first, there's always something at the very back of the wardrobe or sometimes when you buy something. I found that in the back of my wardrobe. Have a look inside. Even, you know, the simple black dress. as well can really be made so elevated by accessories. So this year, you know, we saw what I took inspiration from this year and I used my own wardrobe was I'm looking at Matthew Blasey and Chanel.
And of course, you know, I'm not buying Chanel, but I am looking how he is black, white and red in every outfit.
