Center for New Economics Studies

The Promise (and Perils) of the 'Circular Economy' | CNES Columnist Roundtable

28 Jun 2022

Description

Resources have been at the core of development and their ease of access has increased significantly over the years. This has led to their indiscriminate usage for economic benefits. “The Global Footprint Network, a sustainability organization which calculates the day, says humanity is currently consuming nature 1.75 times faster than the planet can regenerate.”  That means we're squandering our natural capital, jeopardizing future supplies, and contributing to deforestation and carbon dioxide accumulation in the atmosphere. And as the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere rises, so does the rate of climate change.   As a result, today's development issue is to use resources sustainably without overwhelming (eclipsing) the economic domain. This is where the revolutionary concept of the Circular Economy comes into play.   Panelists: Saumya, Deeti, Yuvaraj, Amandeep, and Krishanu.   Image - The Print   #india #circulareconomy #transition #employment #waste #wastesegregation #postproduction #recycle #reuseideas
