The War of Art by Stephen Pressfield is a book I consistently come back to read/listen to each year. There's a chapter called "Resistance and Isolation: Parts I and II". Hearing them again registered differently this time since a few things in my life have changed. I've been hard charging on a few separate fronts, moving several projects forward toward their finish lines, and a few lines got me thinking about this desire to get approval. The "need" for approval can strike before you start a project, in the middle, or before the finish line. My friend calls it "looking for a cosigner". Let's talk through what this means, what the downsides are, the mental traps you'll find yourself in, and some ways you can use goal setting to overcome this problem.
