Why do I keep carrying trauma despite all the self‑help strategies?

Victoria (Tori) Gass 0:00
You've tried to outrun it, outwork it, outpositive think it. Maybe you tried to outdrink it, fell into a spiral of addiction or the bondage of generational curses that you can't seem to shake no matter how hard you try. Maybe you've been praying but not sitting long enough to listen to what God is actually trying to tell you. So you're still carrying it. I'm Tori, I'm a wife, I'm a mama four, and a woman who has walked through the kind of dark that does not have a self-help look for it. From sexual trauma to addiction, shame I caused and shame that was handed to me. I've been in the spiral and I've been in the wreckage and I've been on my knees when nothing was left but Jesus. And that turned out to be enough.

This show is about real trials, real redemption, real faith that actually holds when everything else is gonna fall apart. If you're in a battle or someone you love is, you're in the right place. This is where redemption gets loud. Hey girl. Yes, it's still me. And I know you came here for the chickens. And I just said sexual trauma and addiction. And you're sitting there like, what happened to Tori? And where did my podcast go? It is still here. I'm still here. And so are the chickens. They're not going anywhere. But here's the thing. You know I took some time off. And you're probably like, Yeah, you didn't let us know. I'm sorry, but when God tells me to do something, I don't I I've learned to just listen and do exactly what he tells me to do.
Victoria (Tori) Gass 1:20
So I took time off and God would not let me keep recording that same show. He got very loud with me, very audibly loud, very physically loud in ways that were tangible. On earth, I could see. It's the kind of loud that you cannot explain away or ignore. And what he said was stop being careful. Tell the truth. I will handle the rest. And so here's what we're doing now because here's what I realized. The reason so many of you found the show in the first place was never really about the chickens. It was something Very quiet underneath, but very loud inside. That desire to slow down and to get back to something real to build a life that actually feels like peace inside the noise. Usually that comes from somewhere, right?
Victoria (Tori) Gass 2:06
And I know that feeling. I chased that peace for a long time through all the wrong things before I found it here. And I want to show you how I got here, all of it. not just the farm anymore. So if you've been here with me from the beginning, thank you. Stay with me. It's about to get so much better because I think when we stop hiding behind shame and guilt, which we're told not to do, right? We know that. So When we start hiding, when we stop hiding, that's when it can get really, really, really good. And even if you're going through a trial right now, I am Literally. And I tell you what, I've been hiding from it for so long and I'm no lo I can no longer hide from it. And so you're just gonna get what you get from me, okay?
Victoria (Tori) Gass 2:51
So if you just found the show today, hi, you're right on time. This is where it gets loud. This is where the story of redemption and grace and love and kindness and Jesus and forgiveness and faithfulness and all of it, it gets really loud and I'm so glad you're here. So I'm sorry for the whiplash because that's what I'm sure it feels like right now. But buckle up because we're getting on another roller coaster. Let's go. All right, before we get into the word, we're gonna ask ourselves a question. When did we first want to slow down? That's not when did we actually decide to do it or when did we actually do it, but when did we first feel it? That pull, that whisper that was saying that this is too much and something needs to change.
Victoria (Tori) Gass 3:38
I can't keep keep going at this. This weight is too heavy, the slife is too heavy. And for some of us, it was a moment, a specific day, something happened, and you looked back at your life and thought, how did I get here? What am I doing? There has to be something different than this. And for some of us, it wasn't a moment. It was just like a slow accumulation or like an erosion of the version of ourself that we thought was gonna be able to keep going.
