Welcome to Dragons of Spring Dawning!  We finally learn something about Berem. It isn't pretty. Neither is the 'break-up' between Tanis and Kit! Which Tanis initiates in the middle of the night while Kit is away. His reunion with the rest of the Companions is full of tension. The tension is further heightened when Tanis demands they all leave as soon as possible the next morning. After arguing with the Captain of the Maquesta, Tanis and Company sail out of Flotsam. Kit finds Tanis' break-up note as soon as she returns and handles that about how you'd expect her to.
