Tanis and friends show up in Kalaman, right before Kitiara does to let everyone know that she has Laurana captive and has taken her to Neraka to be a guest of Takhisis. This upsetting news complicates the Companions' reunion. Gilthanas is especially upset with Tanis. Kit delivers an ultimatum to Kalaman and the forces of good if they want to save Laurana. Full surrender and the good dragons go back into hiding, she leaves a floating castle over the city while they contemplate her demands. Tanis, and the Companions, vow to save Laurana. Most of them sneak away in the night, taking Berem with them, headed for Neraka.
