afternoon, whatever it is. So I wonder, and I don't know if you do this, my wife does this, and I've sometimes done this. Do you ever listen to podcasts to fall asleep, Andy? I guess
technically the answer is yes, in that if I listen to a podcast, it will probably put me to sleep. I'll only do it when I'm driving, not because it puts me to sleep, but because that gives my brain something else to do, which is drive. We definitely don't want you falling asleep while you're driving. Yeah. But if I put on a podcast when I'm on an airplane, even though I want to listen to it, I'm out like a light.
So here's the thing. I've heard the following comments from listeners. Oh, I listen to you at double speed. Yep. And or I listen to you when I'm going to sleep, which is kind of a backhanded compliment.
Yeah.
Well, I think that the listen to you at double speed, look, if it works for you, great. But as somebody who has spent a lot of time sort of training intonation and pauses, it sort of feels like you are now missing the performance that's going on.
All right. And I'm sure, by the way, I've listened to many audio books at a faster speed. I'm sure people have listened to your audio book at a faster
speed. I'm sure they have. And if it works for you, that's fantastic. But every time I have tried to crank up an audio book to a higher speed, like it just loses something for me.
I actually listened to a friend's book who she is, was, I'm sorry, a radio personality had her own talk show. And I listened to a book of hers and I did listen to it at a faster speed. I did not let her know that I did that though. I purposely avoided telling her that because I know that would have been an insult to do
that. It's not an insult to me. Just to be very clear, if you listen to my book at a faster speed and it works for you, fantastic. You've consumed my book. Like I don't, as the artist, don't get to control how you consume it. Right. That's the best compliment ever given me was somebody who did buy the audio book. And he said the biggest problem he had was he had to keep pausing it so that his brain could catch up to what I just said. Because I think a lot of people also speed up because there's a lot of fluff in audio books and podcasts and your brain doesn't have to work super hard. So speed it up.
Well, also, if you can hear it and understand it and grok it, then yes, why not listen to something that's 20 hours long and 17 hours or less, you know, for that matter.
