Chapter 1: What insights does Neil deGrasse Tyson share about outer space?

0.031 - 24.236 Bill Maher

On this month's Club Random Classics, we rewind to Neil deGrasse Tyson, the professor, one of my favorites, from Are We Alone to Carl Sagan's influence on his life. That's Are We Alone in the Universe, if you weren't following. He's an astrophysicist. You know, things like a surprisingly heated debate about college kids. Nothing's ever off limits here. You know that.

24.636 - 32.489 Bill Maher

We laugh a lot and it's pure club random. So grab something cold or green or both and hit play.

0

36.715 - 44.451 Unknown

Very... The man himself. Do I genuflect? What do I do? Dr. Dynamite. I'm a hugger. Come here. Give me a hug.

Chapter 2: Why did Neil deGrasse Tyson turn down a scholarship from Carl Sagan?

44.471 - 45.673 Unknown

Absolutely.

0

46.053 - 54.345 Bill Maher

How you doing, man? Professor of personality. How are you? Look at you. I got you in my lab.

0

54.485 - 55.086 Unknown

In your cave.

0

55.106 - 76.023 Bill Maher

You're already... Man cave. No, that's for a married guy. This is a discotheque. Well, you can't tell without the music. And you've already leaned on your prop. I love authors who aren't shy. Well, we will get to this. I've been reading this.

Chapter 3: How many astrophysicists exist globally?

76.063 - 76.484 Bill Maher

You know what?

0

76.504 - 77.065 Unknown

You have?

0

77.205 - 84.314 Bill Maher

Yeah, okay. It's much more pop culture-y. Yeah, very pop culture. Very pop culture. So you dumbed it down for me personally?

0

84.334 - 90.862 Unknown

No, I provided scenery along the way. While you're learning your science, you can capture some pop culture moments.

0

91.042 - 95.468 Bill Maher

So what are the scientists talking about? What's new in outer space, Doc?

96.148 - 108.866 Unknown

No, I feel like half of me is... is tending to scientific diversions in the public. You know, aliens or UFO sightings.

109.086 - 111.189 Bill Maher

I know, we'll get to that.

Chapter 4: What is Neil's perspective on the youth of America?

111.209 - 115.916 Bill Maher

But I want to know, actually, like when you're in the coffee clutch with your other egghead.

0

115.936 - 117.338 Unknown

Yeah, what are we talking about?

0

117.358 - 121.384 Bill Maher

What's the gossip out there? What's putting a tingle in your anus? Okay.

0

122.425 - 130.05 Unknown

That's not where I get my tingles, but fine. You knew I was going to work that out. Yeah, I don't know about your anus, but my anus.

0

130.43 - 134.976 Bill Maher

What is going on with Uranus? You must know. Do planets like that change?

135.476 - 141.984 Unknown

Yeah, yeah, they have lives. Some gossip we could get? No, not from Uranus. That would be Uranus, obviously.

Chapter 5: How does Neil deGrasse Tyson view the gender spectrum in sports?

142.205 - 161.921 Unknown

Oh, really? Is that the way you're supposed to say it? If you're older than age eight, yes, you say Uranus. Do you have a drink? Do you want a drink? I'm doing a Grand Marnier here. What do you drink? A Grand Marnier? Yeah, I'm a wine guy, but when I have wine, it's with food. And generally not otherwise, but if I'm just chilling, as I am with you. Excuse me, a wine guy. Yeah.

0

162.763 - 168.447 Unknown

Yeah, and I can hang with the snobbiest among them. So... Really?

0

Chapter 6: What makes the Vegas Sphere an ideal TED talk venue?

168.487 - 189.556 Unknown

I mean, you mean like you know about wine? Oh, yeah. You do? Academically, yeah. I mean, I know. Oh, yeah. So that's like a hobby? Yes. That's a right way to say that. So if you had like an Australian Syrahs, a California Cabernet, a California Zinfandel, a French Bordeaux, French Burgundy, a Spanish Rioja, I would just go right on down and tell you which one they are.

0

189.957 - 193.742 Unknown

The brain, the human brain barely works.

0

195.106 - 198.251 Bill Maher

Enough about Matt Gaetz. Good night, everybody.

0

198.371 - 203.799 Unknown

It barely works. You know, two people viewing the same thing give a different account.

0

Chapter 7: What are the implications of AI on content creation?

203.819 - 220.705 Unknown

Right. We've known that psychologists have known this forever. And we have books of optical illusions where, oh, is the line, one line bigger or smaller? I don't know. I can't tell. Is it in the page? Simple line drawings can confuse the mind.

0

220.926 - 230.685 Bill Maher

That one is very confusing. It just is. All of these are, or else they wouldn't put them in a book. This is my point. So, so... Don't look down on us.

0

230.705 - 240.732 Unknown

If the brain barely works... Right. Cannot convince me that stirring in other chemicals will make objective reality more apparent to you.

0

Chapter 8: What are Neil's thoughts on the existence of aliens?

241.192 - 242.614 Unknown

Oh, but it does and has. No.

0

243.174 - 246.037 Bill Maher

Of course it has. Here's the difference. Here's the difference. More artistic.

0

246.077 - 247.018 Neil deGrasse Tyson

That's different.

0

247.038 - 251.543 Bill Maher

Fine. I know. Fine. But I am sure. If it unlocks creativity, fine.

0

251.563 - 280.075 Unknown

Right. Well, there's no creativity in your field. There is. However, however, in my field, nature is the judge, jury, and executioner. Of my creativity. Right. Whereas to an artist. Correct. There's room there. You're right. That's the difference. If Van Gogh did not paint the Starry Night or Beethoven didn't compose the Ninth Symphony, no one ever born after them is going to do that.

280.856 - 304.94 Unknown

Whereas if Einstein wasn't born, somebody or some combination of people would have eventually found relativity. No doubt about it. So our creativity is on a landscape where there's only going to be one answer there. Not for the artist. So, yeah, stir in the chemicals for the artist and you'll see the world in whole new ways. Okay. Art, music. You know what?

304.96 - 307.524 Unknown

And with the micro dosing, that's a whole frontier right there.

307.724 - 332.439 Bill Maher

Right? This is not a hill I'm going to die on with you because I'm basically of the same mind. Because I know, especially through relationships, you know, being in show business. I always say I'm in show business. I'm not of it. So I'm not over there with the I know what you mean. But I've known people who were artists in a relationship level. And they just come at a truth a different way.

333.961 - 357.193 Bill Maher

It's not linear. It's not rational. We call these people women. No. Not just women. But there is an artistic way of perceiving reality. And it can be very frustrating. Like if you are, I am much more of the logical type. Do other people think that about you? Yes, they do. Okay, just checking.
