This is an iHeart Podcast. Guaranteed human.
A new year doesn't ask us to become someone new. It invites us back home to ourselves. I'm Mike Della Rocha, host of Sacred Lessons, a space for men to pause, reflect, and heal. This year, we're talking honestly about mental health, relationships, and the patterns we're ready to release.
If you're looking for clarity, connection, and healthier ways to show up in your life, Sacred Lessons is here for you. Listen to Sacred Lessons with Mike Della Rocha on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
This is Dr. Jesse Mills, host of the Mailroom Podcast. Each January, men promise to get stronger, work harder, and fix what's broken. But what if the real work isn't physical at all? I sat down with psychologist Dr. Steve Poulter to unpack shame, anxiety, and the emotional pain men were never taught how to name.
Part of the way through the valley of despair is realizing this has happened, and you have to make a choice whether you're going to stay in it or move forward.
Our two-part conversation is available now. Listen to The Mailroom on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your favorite shows.
Hello, hello, all my people. What's up? It's Questlove. Recently, I had the opportunity to sit down with the one and only A$AP Rocky. He reflects on his journey from Harlem roots to global icon status and discovering the hip-hop origin of his name.
The ledge was on the TV. Rakim had the bucket hat Kangol joint on. My pops was like, that's Rakim. That's who you named after. I just...

Chapter 2: How do breaks in relationships affect couples?
So then TMZ got a hold of that, whatever the case may be. Desmond came on the Internet and he did a statement and his statement basically said in so many words, I wanted to separate in December. I talked to her about a separation that didn't happen. And in that time, I made some bad choices and basically cheated. Um, and now she has said a few things. She's her posts have been very like lunch.
Oh me, body, body, body. And then she just posted that in her new house. Cause they had just built this beautiful house together. She posted in her new house today and put same address and had a whole photo shoot. Right? So it's crazy because the internet was, is basically blaming her, right?
And they're like, he's probably, like, even with the same address post, they're in the comments talking about, like, oh, well, girl, he probably, like, not dealing with your annoying ass and your drama. It's women, it's men. Everyone is, like, dogging her and basically saying, like, he don't care about that house because that house wasn't bringing him peace. He probably licking...
whipped cream off the next girl's butt and all type of stuff. They're saying crazy stuff about her and basically saying, like, you were so annoying and da-da-da-da-da. And then some people are saying, like, how as a man could you cheat on a woman that's so beautiful? Like, she's beautiful. She's funny. She's cool. Like, the woman is really gorgeous. She's funny. She has a cool character.
I don't really know her, so I don't know who she is as a person. You know what I mean? But that's kind of what the internet is on, mainly siding with him.
Yeah.
Some people are saying he's gay. He cheated with a man. And some people are just saying like he is over her or whatever. What do you think? Do you think that women becoming more successful and being in the limelight like that can drive a man to want to cheat on her?
I think when I look at her, I see she got millions of followers. Yeah. Very beautiful girl.
She is.

Chapter 3: What are the implications of infidelity in relationships?
You're not happy. A lot of times when a woman is done, a man is really not happy. He's just not like, and you feel that and you're like, not going to do it as a man. So I'm going to do it and it's going to hurt for both of us, but it's going to be better for us in the long run.
But all right. So this is what I say. Yes. The man, usually when a woman breaks up, the man's not happy either.
Yeah.
But the man can deal with not being happy for a year and come back.
Yeah, but a woman can't.
This is the deal about relationships. And what we have to understand that all long-term relationships, it's just like... The economy. You have good years and bad years.
Yeah, I agree with that.
Everything ain't going to be always good.
I agree with that.

Chapter 4: How do societal expectations influence relationship dynamics?
I swear, women never like to admit when it's they fault or when they're wrong.
You've never seen a woman take accountability before.
I'm just saying in general, for the most part, women don't. And then it's just bad attitude, quiet, don't want to say nothing, and then won't even apologize when they really find out they're wrong. Just try to let it go by. That's the worst. Okay. It'll make things so much easier if women just held accountability or more accountability and apologize a little more when they're wrong.
Okay. What makes you feel like you're being chosen and not just wanted? Like I'm actually choosing this person. I just don't want them for all the stuff that they have.
You talking about me?
Like men. You, men, anyone.
Actually, say that question again.
What do you think makes men feel like they're actually being chosen and not just like wanted for their material items?
If you're broke?

Chapter 5: What role does self-esteem play in dating choices?
Yeah. You know, your work, your goals, because then you off all the other bullshit distractions, hanging with the homies, going to the club, doing bullshit. I'm locked in with her, and now I'm going to just lock in here, and I'm going to lock in on my, my career or what, you know, something that's driving me and it's going to allow me to focus on that.
But when I'm not locked in with her and I'm over here and I'm going in too many directions, it's a clear path when you lock in with somebody, I truly believe, you know, all great men have great women with them. You know what I'm saying? And I believe that, you know, so yeah.
What about the idea of keeping it real with your homies but lying to your girl? He said that's corny and that's fake to him. Like, oh, I keep it real with my boys, but I go home and lie to my girl. He said he don't rock with that and he thinks that's fake.
Well, what do you got to lie to your homies about?
What do you have to lie to your woman about if you're doing right by her? A lot of things. What are the things you need to lie about? Like, this is crazy. I don't want to be with anyone that feels like they have to lie a bunch of things to me.
No, no, no. I'll tell you why. Like, I got friends that are married that they girl don't like them smoking weed. So he'll go smoke some weed. Boom, boom, boom. And she'd be like, what you doing? I was just, you know.
What's another example?
That's an example.
What's another example? What's another example? You said a lot of things. So give me another thing.
