08 Mar 2023

Description

Rob Eggerling starred for the Southern Connecticut State Owls from 1997 through 2000, earning All-Northeast 10 Conference First Team Defense honors as a punter in 1999. Eggerling completed his career with the second-most punts in program history, as well as the second-most total career yards. He was also a senior captain and chosen as the Owls' Offensive Most Valuable Player that season. He was also a pitcher for Southern's baseball team. Coach Eggerling returned to Southern Connecticut after serving as the safeties coach at Bowdoin, as well as the associate head coach and defensive coordinator at Saint Anselm College, during which time he was named the 2014 NCAA Division II Assistant Coach of the Year by the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston. In today's episode, he shares his approach to being himself while coaching and in all situations, how he teaches his 3-3 stack defense to create versatility, and how to adjust to big personnel on offense. What really comes through in this interview is a love for his university and how he makes being part of that community an important aspect not just of his coaching but his life.
