Dr. Jeremy Maxwell joins Dr. Jonathan Abel and Dr. Angela Riotto to talk about the racial integration of the US Army in the mid-twentieth century. He begins by discussing the segregation of the Army and how it began to be questioned in the early part of the century. He details how World War 2 was a turning point, both for Black Americans and for President Harry Truman, in how America viewed segregation within the Army. He then discusses how the segregation was ordered and carried out, explaining how it took decades to really take hold within the institution. "History is only a confused heap of facts." - Philip Dormer Stanhope, Earl of Chesterfield Host: Dr. Jonathan Abel, CGSC DMH Artwork: Daniel O. Neal Music: SSG Noah Taylor, West Point Band
