So a complicated story, I suppose, but I suppose let's go back to um what has happened with Bluebell United and what are are their ties, I suppose, to Andrew Noonan first, who who was their manager but is now serving a length, is it thirteen year sentence for heroin trafficking?
Yeah, thirteen and a half years, uh for two point seven million of heroin, um, which he was handed down last year. Yeah, And Andrew Noonan, um, he was a former League of Ireland footballer, um, and he was also I suppose the controversy came in relation to him before he was convicted of the drug offences was back in two thousand and eight there was an innocent postman called Robert Delaney who was shot um at his house in Talla. And ever since uh that shooting Robert's been in a vegetable state.

Yeah, I've actually been in the Delaney house and um when Robert was there. And the reality is he was shot and he has no brain function, but he's physically able to survive independently. So effectively he's in a wheelchair and there is you know, his brain function isn't working. I mean it's really, really difficult for the family, uh, who obviously love and you can see you could see the affection for him. Uh But I mean it's a difficult situation with no hope of any recovery as as the family would say themselves.

So in terms of of Robert, like he wasn't involved in crime. He wasn't involved in like gangland feuds on like that. He was a postman. He was a father or two. Um and basically I think what happened really or what the suspicion of why he was targeted was just a simple Yeah. disagreement with someone outside a pub, words were exchanged, that was it, and that seemed to have sealed his fate. Um the man he believed that it was just as simple as that. Just said the wrong thing to the wrong person, you know, who's you know
So I mean it happens you know, thousands of times every week in in in Dublin, people outside of Pub and somebody says something. But on this occasion, what happened was uh a hired hitman basically was was was paid money to go and shoot him f for that minor uh event.
That's yeah, that's very much the suspicion there that the there was a hitman from Fingless who would have had kind of Republican links. was hired, was the one that was hired. He's he's since been deceased. Um he's been shot dead himself, just an unrelated issue. But um that was suspicion at the time. After that, uh after the shooting, um, John Noonan, who would have been a a kind of provo godfather back in the day, you know, he would have been involved ironically considering what his son was later convicted of, he would have been involved in concerned parents against drugs and all that part of thing. There was a lot of Republican involvement in in in in those kind of marches at the time. So he was that.
He was a provo godfather. He uh then went on to kind of become a businessman, so to speak, in security, but then eventually ended up getting targeted by CAB for millions um and went bankrupt um a fair few years ago just in relation to that.
