We are light on the chit chat, heavy on the book talk, and our conversations will always be spoiler-free. Today we'll discuss our current reads, a readerly deep dive, and a little something bookish before we go. I'm Katie Cobb, a single homeschooling mom of four in Arizona. And I love books that are truly for all ages. This is episode number nine of season nine, and we're so glad you're here. Today I am joined by Sarah McKinsey of the Read Aloud Revival Podcast, a longtime and perennial favorite here on Currently Reading.

I am so happy to be here, Katie. I'm just like delighted to be here.
I am also delighted. Like I said, we have been mentioning Sarah and Read Aloud Revival since well like early in season one. Your book, Read Aloud Family, was an early press, which is what we used to do to end our episodes way back in the day, where we would say, We think everybody should read this. And so it kind of feels like this waking dream to finally get to sit down and talk to you. So fun.
I mean, it's just telling you how much I've been enjoying your podcast and so it's just fun to actually get to chat with you on it now.
Very fun. And I love that we got to chit chat a little before we got started and we have a lot in common, which was delightful to discover. Yes. Let's take a minute right here at the top for anybody who's not familiar with Sarah McKenzie and the Read Aloud Revival. Can you tell us a little about yourself?
Yeah, so Read Aloud Revival came out of my experience reading aloud with my own six kids. So I have six kids from twenty-four down to thirteen. And really I started reading aloud to them a lot when I had heard a speaker at a homeschool conference talk about how it was the best way to help your kids learn to be good communicators. Because these like grammatically correct, sophisticated language patterns coming in through the ear. was significant to helping them become good communicators. But then we started reading aloud a lot because of that. And then all these other benefits started appearing. These connections between us, the fact that my kids were growing in empathy and fortitude and connecting us each to each other, helping us see each other and be for each other.
And so it really transformed my relationship with my kids. And so I started the Read Aloud Revival podcast, which has been running for almost a dozen years now wildly and host a community of families over at RAR Premium where we are just helping families make reading a way of life, helping them connect with their kids, see their kids, and love their kids through reading aloud.
So wonderful. We do have a large homeschooling contingent here because of my representation on the show. Yeah, yeah. But also a huge majority of our listening audience is either moms, grandmas, teachers, people who have a lot of kids in their lives. So if they're not already listening to Read Aloud Revival, they probably should be. Also, I will say just because you're here and I get to gush a little bit, that 12 years ago I had a four-year-old A one year old and no other children. And I was just about to start homeschooling, which is when I I think maybe through Ann Bogle and decided that that was gonna be a big part of my homeschooling day. And now, twelve years later, I still read aloud to all four of my kids, sixteen down to eight years old, every single week.
It's a huge part of our family narrative. Yeah. And the way that we connect with each other. So thank you.
Oh my gosh. Really, it's been such a joy for me as my three older kids have become adults and launched into the world. And watching their their relationship with books and also how we keep relating to each other through books. Like I'm not reading aloud with these kids anymore, but that's still such a strong tie for us.
