And then I I'm calling it uh most people have said this, but uh if not the best game of football I've ever seen, but it's right up there.
Um that prelim final was had everything that AFL footy is, it had the momentum swings, it had the heartbreak, it had had the controversy, um, just a crazy game of football. And both teams thoroughly deserve to win. But unfortunately there's only one winner and Brisbane move on. And then we will preview the uh the grand final. So we'll preview the Free Bs Brisbane game and then we'll get into the Gatorade sweat index at the end of what numbers I think are the most important for this weekend's game. But we'll jump into Friday night and What a s it was a such a strange game of football and I I think I flagged a couple of these things last week. I I didn't think that Sydney would be able to keep up their level of intent and pressure and um that would get them over the line against Freo.
Um But geez, they had a crack. They they forced Freo into a game that that Frio largely didn't want to play. And there's probably two ways you can look at this for the Frio point of view. You can look at it of the Oh shit for this week, because if they play like they did on the weekend in terms of and and there's a few things in it. The the their ball movement, their intent for the contest, their skill level. Um, if they play like that on the weekend, they they'll get beaten by a fair bit. But you can look at it the positive side of they didn't play very well. And they were still able to get through the game. Um, and basically one quarter footy was enough to put it away. If if you just go into the game, what we thought Sydney would do is what they did.
They brought immense amount of pressure. They had 80 tackles to free 064. Um, they won the intercept game off the back of their pressure, 80 to 73. Um, their intent and and there's a lot of admiration for the way Sydney have gone about um the back end of the year. since the the scandal that um happened, um in terms of the guys that were out there and the people at the club to be able to kind of galvanize around each other and put out the performances they did. That they didn't die wondering and um their role players stepped up, their leaders stepped up, they had more problems happen. Mills goes down with an ACL, one of their more important players. So um to do what they did was pretty unbelievable. But ultimately Freo's
Frio's talent and professionalism got the job done in the end. If I go to what what kept Frio in the game for pretty much the whole game and in term in terms until the last quarter was their contest work and I think this is probably the bit that I don't know inevitably if they didn't have this they would have lost the game of football. It was just enough to keep ticking the scoreboard over. It was enough to keep them um close enough that if they got everything to click that they would be able to run over the top. If you go to clearance numbers forty four to thirty, set a bounce they won twelve to six, ground ball a hundred and one to ninety four and I've spoken a lot about um the ground ball number, but um it ta it stacks up really well for for Freo when they play well.
