Chapter 1: What are the biggest talking points in football this week?
And then the long one, this will be something. It is. It's an MCG special in Budde.
Welcome back, you rats, wherever you are and however you're listening. Thanks for tuning in and doing football with us on this beautiful 29th of April with a big round eight of football just around the corner. Lots to get through. I have done some investigating, got to the bottom of it. My own little thing I wanted to find out. What was it? New Zealand, Anzac Day.
Oh my God.
couldn't sleep i could not sleep knowing if our anthem goes first or second sure enough like we have in columbia like we have in france we got feet on the ground new zealand and sure enough they sing the australian anthem first then the new zealand anthem in maori and then english So I hope everyone goes forward.
If they just listen to this part of the pod, they're happy with it and they just go forward going, thank God I know that.
Yeah, everyone would be super stoked about that.

Chapter 2: How is the local footy salary epidemic impacting grassroots clubs?
Yeah.
Don't find that interesting at all? That they do it the other way to us?
What I find more interesting is that Androgenic got kicked out of the US. Stay tuned. Yeah, so that's what I've been digging into lately.
That guy scares me. He's coming on my feet a lot.
Apparently he's coming to the Pies and Hawks game Thursday.
No, he's not. We're going to that. So we'll talk about that soon because that's huge for us to be invited to a Pies function, which is just, again, I cannot believe it. But I have also got a lot of feedback from the last pod when we spoke about you playing Div 3 football, which I can now find out And I know it's not Div 3 football. William Geary said this.

Chapter 3: What are the new AFL rules around Academy and Father-Son selections?
Snitch. Joey playing Div 6 thirds football, which is effectively Div 7 due to thirds having premier grade with Legends Match Boots as criminal first. Overall, it's Division 13 in the buffer with the three teams they have in Div 3 that you're in. You're playing Div 13 football.
Mate, I'm just playing the opposition that they put in front of me.
No, no, no. But in the league, you're playing Div 13 football.
Yeah, and what's the issue with that?
Well, my biggest issue, I didn't have a gripe with it until I found out that not only are you playing Div 13 football, but your game should be at the... When the sun rises in Div 13 football, you should be on the ground. Yeah, and that's essentially what it was, 9-20.
When you turn to me, you and Moff, who are for some reason so just obsessed with playing this football league, you turn to me half an hour and go, oh, you won't believe it. The time's been changed. First thing, I will believe it because Div 13, they could change any time whenever. Like an hour before the game, they could change it. Moff goes, they've changed the time. We're playing at 4 p.m.
on a Saturday. Yeah, that's the best time slot of all time. So you're playing a 4 p.m.
Saturday primetime Div 13 football. Yeah, because they know that the Moff likes a bright light, so they're going to be putting him under the lights. Is this your last game, isn't it? Potentially for this club. There's a few clubs chasing me with some cash.
That's not good.

Chapter 4: How do the upcoming Round 8 matches look for key teams?
They could handball and kick. Yeah. Well, it's amazing. I would have gone to the 920 game. I have no chance of going at 4 p.m. to where are you playing? Monash.
Monash. We love the Monash. I hate when it's backed up though. But I won't be there. You said earlier that you might play a game though.
Bryce is right. Yeah, okay. Dad's bank's always open. Dad's bank never sleeps. It has actually been asleep for a while because I would never come back for a game of football. I was asked to come out of retirement again for a game of football at the end of the year. That's not going to happen, I don't think.
Really?
Don't happen to me. No, these calves aren't made for walking.
So your last game that you played, you had the Harley Reid boots at the Legends game. Yeah. Is there a bigger disparity in football boots on a footy field?
Would you like to talk about that? Because you were very sensitive about it Monday. Between the EJ Witten's Legends game. Do you want to talk about it now? You were very... On your birthday, you didn't want to talk about it because you were quite sheepish about it.

Chapter 5: What are the expectations for the Pies vs. Hawks game?
Yeah. Just tell us your thought process because you know I don't care anymore. So what do you want to talk about? Well, your thought process when you looked at all the boots we have in the office, which we have probably six pairs.
Okay, well, I'll hit you up. That's size 14. They're not my size. I'm size 13. The other ones, I have no idea. The red Adidas ones, I have no idea where they are now.
So then you see the Harley Reid boots. Yeah, and I say... What goes on your... You know what?
Let's go to Joey's brain. Take us there. Harley Reid's a fucking good player. A fucking good footy player. May as well use his boots. Yeah, and then you took them. That's how he talks to me, by the way. Okay, and then you took them. Yeah, well, it was like an ask for forgiveness rather than permission sort of thing. Yeah, like that. And I regret my decision.
And you know what? Admittedly, I've been there before. Have I taken Stephen Doyle's shin pad before a league game in Norwood? Yes, I have. Did you find me wearing it in the warm-up? Yes, you did. Did you take it off me?

Chapter 6: How are local clubs handling player payments and salary caps?
Yes, you did. So I get it. Sometimes you'll see things, you'll take them.
Like, it's not like the first time I've done this. I mean, well, when the Gold Coast Suns used to finish up their season, we'd go into the sheds and have a little sauna and spa and a gym sesh. And I would absolutely go through and take as many boots that fit me.
That sounds criminal.
And then I'm pretty sure Macca took Matt Rose's boots at the time. And Matt Rosen was like, hey, where the fuck are my boots?
I need those ones. Didn't Nathan Ablett used to hide people's boots and stuff?
That was a gag. He probably would have taken it for raw material or something and built something. He was doing some things. That does remind me of when... I think his name was Glenn Strawn, who's now the AFL W coach of Port, rolled in as a Northern Bull Ants player and took Mark Murphy's 300 game boots. And they said Murphy 300 on them and actually rocked him at the Ant Farm.
And Murph was like, they're clearly my boots. They say Murph 300 on them, which is pretty funny. So we've all been there. Did it ever cross your mind just to go to Rebel?
Oh, that cost a bit of money.
Had to pay for my registration at Fitzroy as well.

Chapter 7: What are the implications of the crackdown on local football?
Where's the Chad Warner boots?
You wouldn't fit in those.
Oh, those ones up there. I do love Gatorade.
you do this came out yesterday I'm not sure if it's because and this is still on the subject of you guys not sure if this came out and I saw it yesterday because three guys in our office here rolled out to a div 13 game and now they're investigating this but can we play this quippy rash of the crackdown that's happening at local football by the police this is this is the federal police that are now cracking down at local football
So this is why I said that I paid for my fees because of this. You know there's a crackdown. There's an absolute sting happening at the moment. I don't want Fitzroy to get in trouble. It's a sting. It's like underbelly of football. Here he is. I have no idea who that guy is.
Player payments in grassroots footy spiralling out of control. Here at The Age, we've been investigating a series of concerns in and around grassroots footy. And one of the major problems has been salary caps or the lack of regard for salary caps.
Sorry, did you pause? Did you say salary cats?
Yeah, he did.
He said Richmond. He said salary cats. He said caps. Go again.

Chapter 8: How do the teams stack up for the upcoming showdown?
books allegations range from secret envelopes of cash shares in horses tanks of diesel cheap blocks of land and tradesmen being overpaid for jobs these allegations come at a cost struggling clubs some who are fighting for survival claim they are being left behind in an unpoliced arms race one senior coach told us he offered a star player fifteen thousand for the season more than eight hundred dollars a game only to be told that he was forty thousand dollars short
A footy manager also said he knows of two players who were offered in excess of $60,000. Governing salary caps is the responsibility of AFL Victoria, but many accuse them of falling short. Clubs such as the Wangaratta Magpies in Kiel have been stripped of premierships in recent years for salary cap breaches, but we have been told this is just the tip of an iceberg.
For the full investigation... Okay, and then he runs up there.
So that's... Timely. It is very timely, given what's happening here and then elsewhere in the football world, local football. So local footballers who are just getting that much cash on the table, just not shaking, but sweating. I'm open to taking a wad of cash if anyone's got it. I guess now is also a good time to say that with that story coming out, I am also open to coming out to play again.
Yeah. If that's the amount of money that's getting around. And then we can just hide it in plain sight. They won't even find it. I love how everyone thinks this isn't a big story. This has been going on forever.
Yeah.
And maybe with $130,000 salary cap at local football, the person who's on $60,000 is just a really good footballer. And you have to use half your salary cap to then sign them to be good at football. Yeah, absolutely. So I'm not opposed to it. I also want to know who's getting paid that cash at local football. Who's getting paid $60,000 to play local football? That sounds like an absolute dream.
Yeah, it sounds pretty good. That's what you need.
There's some players out there, isn't there? On ADK somewhere?
