Within a minute, I'm pulling into the driveway of the Martin home. It's the same log cabin that Heidi Martin left to go jogging on that fateful day. I get out of the car, trying to still my nerves, and walk up to the back door.
Chapter 2: What led Jennifer to the Martin home?
I'm here to ask Barry what his alibi is for May 20th, 1984. From AudioChuck, this is Dark Valley, an investigation into the Connecticut River Valley Killer. I'm Jennifer Amell. This is Episode 17.
Nice to meet you. Thank you. Yeah. Come on, miss. Get in there, old girl. You're not supposed to be wandering around. Hi, Barry. And Lynn's in here. Okay. I can't remember your name. I'm not good at remembering. Oh, it's okay.
Chapter 3: What is Barry Martin's alibi for May 20th, 1984?
My name is Jen.
Jen. Okay. I should remember that. You've got a niece by that name.
Hi, Jen. Hi. Nice to meet you.
This is Lynn.
Hi. Nice to meet you.
Lynn, sit down and relax.
So what's up? Yeah, so as you know, I've been talking to your daughter, April. Yeah. So a little bit about what I'm doing. So I am an investigative journalist, and I've been looking into, like, the so-called Connecticut River Valley cases.
Yeah, I've heard that.
I don't know how familiar you are.

Chapter 4: What do Heidi's parents remember about the day she disappeared?
Right. Yeah, because Agnew was, like—
Right over in the rest area, and they found her up on the mountain. My goodness. Yeah, I worked for the state, so I remembered all that stuff.
Oh, did you? What did you do for the state?
I was a road patrolman for highway.
So, yeah, I mean, today I'd love to talk about your daughter, Heidi.
Yeah.
I know it's probably not an easy thing. No, I don't usually do it, and my kids think that I hold back too much, but, you know, you have to live the way you live. Yeah, I understand. Yeah.
Because Erin always said that, you know, we kept to ourselves so much because of what happened to Heidi. And like I told him, I said, you don't understand how much it hurts, really. I said, she's been gone all these years and it still hurts. You know, the holidays come up, her birthday was just passed and stuff like this.
And it's hard to see that she's missed out on all that, like that picture behind you. They grow up too fast. You're going to ask certain questions and that'll help us maybe be able to answer better.

Chapter 5: What insights do Barry and Linda share about the investigation?
No, he was jogging.
Okay. Um, Delbert had kind of curly hair. I thought that everybody had figured out that that was him, but... Maybe. I don't know.
I don't either. But anyway...
Okay, so you were with Carl Perkins.
Yep.
Okay. And you're working on something there.
Equipment out in the yard, yep.
And then was that early morning? Was it afternoon?
Geez, I can't remember.

Chapter 6: Did Barry Martin face any accusations or suspicions?
No.
I heard from McCullough's that there was maybe some drug activity like down near the bridge.
No, I can imagine everything. It would be full of beer bottles. And that's after when I went down there and checked on her.
There was also the gravel pit that was always open. And that was a dead end. I can't. Where is that? The gravel pit.
Which gravel pit? That's down over the tracks.
Down over the tracks. Okay. Down over the tracks.
Yeah. Because that's where they used to... That's where the shooting range is now.
Yeah, the shooting range. So that was a drinking place back then, but that's kind of a parallel road. They were hauling out of that gravel pit back then? They were, weren't they?
Pike. Yeah, they were.
