so what are you guys up to on fourth of july watching us talk about a california classic summer league yeah you're damn right give me a hell yeah i don't know if i have it ready give me a hell yeah
Put down your hot dogs and let's talk some hoops. Day one of the California Classic is in the books. Kings get the win over the Nets, 79-76 in what was kind of an ugly summer league game. We saw the debut of Darius Acuff Jr. Crowd was so amped. when they introduced him and then he came out of the gates, one of nine shooting, he was missing so many good looks. Overall ends up taking 29 shots tonight, but at 25 points, he had no turnovers in the game. Yeah. All four of his assists, I believe came in the fourth quarter, including the big one late where, Hey, it's a tie game. 76, 76. It looks like it might be ISO mode. He sees Nick's defender cheat.
over a little bit dishes to nick pump fake sidestep three bang made the right play uh what was your first reaction to watching darius ache of junior play basketball um well first reaction when the game first started it was just i wasn't worried but it was more like oh he has to get settled in Like I, and I was excited for him to get settled in because, you know, people wanted to see action right away. And obviously the first play of the game, Dylan Cardwell throwing it down. I know we'll talk more about him and then screaming all the way down the floor. It wouldn't stop. Like it was a great way to start the game for the Kings, but everyone's eyes were on Darius Acuff. And so for him shots, just missing the perimeter defense by the nets though, was so physical.
It was so tough. I loved it in so many ways, but I also thought like it got a little out of hand at times. But this is Darius Acuff when it gets out of hand. And for people maybe listening to this, it's just a straight composed face. Doesn't give two fucks is what his face is. Okay. Like literally could care less who is on him, what they're doing. No one's going to speed him up.
What were Deuce and Mo’s first impressions of Darius Acuff’s debut?
And that's what I noticed. Even when things weren't falling for him, it was, he was still going to remain playing his style of game. Keep looking for a shot. And I'm glad he kept looking for a shot deuce because you saw what ended up happening there at the end of the game.
Yeah, if you just stare at the box score and today you go... If you have these... I don't know, these thoughts about Darius going into the draft. You're like, oh my God, all he does is score. He just wants to shoot. And then you look at the box score and go, oh my God, 29 shot tips. 29 shot tips, it's a lot. You go, oh my God, but... watching it i didn't have a problem with it i mean one it's summer league you need to just find your rhythm this is the first time he's playing the game in like four months and the other thing just in general it's not just him but everyone the shooting is pretty shitty typically in summer league especially at the start from a king's perspective they had two days of practice and then the next game the next day again yeah the first day they went two and a half hours yeah
Yeah. They practice again the next day. Then they had a game today. So I don't know. Heavy legs, whatever. He definitely settled in. And I like it. Didn't really fuck with them. Like one of nine. You mentioned that the pressure a lot of times when you watch some of these young guys, especially when they're handling a lot. And because these players don't know each other well, you're just going to see a lot of turnovers. And for him to just have one when he's being pressured the whole way down. I don't know. I like this game. He missed some shots. And I was laughing because I'm like, he ends up with 25 in this game.
