What's up, basketball sick host? It's Deuce Mason. No Morgan Reagan tonight. Morgan flew out late last night after day one of the California Classic. She's in Washington, D.C., getting ready for a Valkyrie's game. So I'm like, I gotta come on and talk about what we saw in day two of the California Classic in Sacramento. Kings taking on the Warriors blue team because the Warriors have another Summer League team that's also playing in a California Classic that's in San Francisco right now. Nonetheless, Sacramento, nice comeback. They end up winning to improve the 2-0 in the classic. They beat the Warriors tonight, 91 to 85. I'm sure many were disappointed. I think we're all eager to see Darius Acuff again.
What happened in the Kings' Day 2 California Classic comeback?
Darius Acuff did not play neither the Neat Clifford or Dylan Cardwell in today's game. And some people go, Are you kidding me? This early on load management, what are we doing? Well, this layout of the California classics has been interesting because it's three straight days of games. You know, like back-to-backs are tough, but you three in a row after a lot of these guys haven't really played five and five. five, maybe since the college season. So we're talking about like March, right? Um, so asking them to do two days of practice into a game and then play two more games in a row, that is taxing, especially with a couple of weeks in Vegas coming up. So You know, we we've seen the same thing from the Nets.
They sat their guys today. Milwaukee hasn't played Braden Burries yet. And then this warrior squad. This is their other squad. So all their guys play. They only had 11 players. I expect that ACOff, Cardwell, and Neek end up playing coming up in the California classic finale when they take on the Bucks Monday night. Hopefully Brain Burries plays. Brain Burries one scored 44 points at Golden One Center, winning a state title. But let's focus on tonight's game here first. I guess my biggest takeaway through two games, how do you not love Emmanuel Sharp? And don't get it twisted. Okay. I do fall into the trap of like this guy looks good in summer league. I fall in love and I have these grand ideas of what the player can be.
You know, I I really get hyped up because I'm a hopeful individual sometimes. But in all honesty, what we've seen from Emmanuel Sharp in a couple of games has been a guy that is willing to do the dirty work. He went to Houston under Kelvin Sampson and talking to him after the game tonight, I asked him about what that time at Houston did for him and his game. And he told me and Mark Jones, he said I didn't play defense before I went to Houston. What? Wait, so this guy wasn't a defender, and now you see him out there. You saw him what he was able to do at Houston, but now here early in the California Classic. I think he's been fantastic. I mean, the physicality, the active hands, stripping guys, bumping guys, switching out on the guys, the help defense.
He checks so many boxes from a defensive standpoint. And he's the exact type of player that Sacramento has needed.
Why did Darius Acuff, Nique Clifford and Dylan Cardwell sit out the game?
Not just a guy that could defend, but a guy who can play physical. You feel me? And then on the other side, I mean, he's able to knock down threes. He hasn't been super efficient here. He was Five of twelve in this game, excuse me, five of fifteen in this game, four of twelve from downtown, ended up with 18 points. He had seven rebounds, three assists, a couple of steals. The stats, whatever. I mean, he was just loud out there. That's the best way to describe it. Just loud. And The king's need someone that brings that type of edge. I mean the way he's started playing It's hard to imagine him not getting some run in Sacramento. And you're like, well, they have all these guards. No, but they don't have a guard that can do the things he can do defensively.
And he's in elite condition. The one thing you notice in summer leagues sometimes is these guys haven't played five on five in a while, and they look gassed at times.
