Also, feel free to visit me over at patreon.com forward slash Drew Blood. So tonight we welcome back our old pal Brian Asbury. In this one we join a family living off the grid in the Rockies, twenty years into building a life with just their hands. Of course a house like that only stands as long as everyone agrees to hold it up. So without further delay, from author Brian Asbury Savage Homestead.
Drew Blood 3:13
Gunshots rang out in the distance, causing Russ Savage to raise his rifle and cautiously scan the dense wooded mountainside that he trekked through. He established a homestead in the wilderness of the Rocky Mountains over two decades earlier and fiercely defended his property from threats, both man and beast alike. He and his wife Katie chose living off the grid after becoming restless and jaded with the fast paced city life.

What is the opening premise of the Savage Homestead story?

Drew Blood 3:43
Rush started out as a wiry, sandy haired young man who was thirsty for adventure and freedom that was uninfringed. He was now in his mid fifties with shoulder length grey hair and a long flowing goatee. In his time on the mountain, he and Katie had instilled their undying beliefs into their three children and Joseph was the firstborn, followed by Hazel, then Gunner, who was the youngest at nineteen. Gunner, who was intellectually disabled, rarely strayed from his father's side, and almost never ventured off the property. After a few minutes, Russ lowered his rifle and looked back at Gunner, who followed him from a distance as he aimed his crossbow. Russ then reached for the walkie talkie in his back pocket.

Hunters, I reckon. He said, as he whispered into the microphone. Gunner strapped his crossbow onto his back, then continued surveying the landscape. They hadn't seen much that day and desperately needed meat to sustain the family. Suddenly he stopped and sniffed the air, as if he had picked up on a scent. He then reached for his crossbow and began grunting like an animal. He seemed to possess an almost uncanny ability to communicate with the wildlife in a way that he never could with humans. Moments later, a grunt could be heard echoing from within the pine trees. The gunner grunted again. Loud and aggressive as his father readied his gun. The grunts eventually turned to aggressive snort wheezes, and soon a buck who was competing for territory stepped into view.

Russ stood back, as it was gunner's shot to take.
