Chapter 5: How is Nolan Smith performing as a first-year head coach at Tennessee State?
We're here to preview the NC State game that's coming up. As you listen to this, it's going to be Monday, Monday night at the Lenovo Center in Raleigh, a place that we desperately hate playing at because things always happen at this contest. But we're hoping that it's going to be a good night for the Blue Devils as they take on the NC State Wolfpack. That game, 7 p.m.
Chapter 6: What insights are there about Duke's recent double-digit leads?
Eastern time tonight on ESPN. Jason, as we get into this game, Let's talk about their record and then.
Chapter 7: Is Jon Scheyer a frontrunner for Coach of the Year?
Hey, Donald, actually, before we even get into it, I want folks to understand because people may be listening to this. They may be like. I may be like we already played NC State.
Chapter 8: What are the implications of Duke's performance in the ACC tournament?
You know, they may hear this after we played it or they whatever. This is not this episode to be more than just an NC State preview. We're going to have a ton of stuff in the back half that stick around. We're going to talk about some other interesting, interesting things about this Duke team that have nothing to do with NC State. All right. That's correct. This is a true bite.
We have the main meat being the preview, but we have some other nuggets that we want to discuss on the back end as well. But Jason, let's get into the NC State Wolfpack. They're 19 and 10 on the year. 10-6 in the ACC has been an up-and-down year for them under new coach Will Wade this season. They have some top 100 wins that are pretty notable. They've beaten Wake Forest twice.
They beat Ole Miss. Clemson, they beat Syracuse. Of course, they... ransacked UNC. Sure, that was without Caleb Wilson and Henry Visar, but who cares? When you beat UNC, it counts, baby. And they beat SMU as well. Their only bad loss, again, out of the 10, was to Georgia Tech. Now, since they beat, or I'm sorry, since basically February 7th, they've lost four out of five.
Their only win was that blowout win against UNC. And it includes them losing 118-77 to Louisville and 90-61 to UVA, which we kind of talked about briefly on the UVA preview. They've lost some close games this year. They lost by 1-0 to Kansas. They lost by 1 to Miami. They lost by 6 in overtime to Notre Dame. But they are still kind of struggling here as they get into March.
11-4 at home games for them, 4-6 in quad one games, which this is for us. They are ranked 29th in the net, 31 in Ken Palm. So, Jason, talk about some of the metrics. I think the metrics kind of show, as I'm looking at them, that this team has been inconsistent in some ways. And it's not just on one side of the ball. It's on both.
Yeah, you know, a couple weeks ago, they were 9-2 in the ACC. And they were like, oh, we deserve to be ranked. You know, they thought they had a chance to play their way into being ranked. you know, possibly like number two, number one, number two seat in the ACC. And as you mentioned, they've lost four or five. They have not looked good lately. They are currently 31st.
Like in Ken Palm, they have the 23rd offense and the 46th defense. Let's talk about the offense first. There are two things that they do really great. First is they take care of the ball. Like you can't turn them over. Eighth best turnover rate in the land on offense. And the other thing they do really well, they shoot really well from three. So you got to worry about this offense.
I mean, they're not going to turn it over. They're going to shoot a lot of three-pointers, and they're going to hit them. They hit 38.6% from three. That's the 11th best three-point shooting range from bonus range in the country. They shoot, like I said, they shoot a pretty fair number. It's not like Louisville or Florida State that we saw earlier this year.
They don't take 50% of their shots from three, but they're taking a lot of three-pointers in every game. In each of their last two games, they took more than 33 three-pointers. They also play relatively fast on offense, does NC State. When they find a shot, they like it.
