Apple declares war on the Commonwealth Bank. We have an equity mate joining us to pitch a stock for our community portfolio. And even God can't beat dollar cost averaging and we have the data to show it. Welcome to Equity Mates, a show where we explore what's possible in the world of investing.
Why is dollar cost averaging superior to perfect market timing?
If you've just joined us for the very first time, a massive welcome to our community. My name is Bryce, and as always, I'm joined by my equity buddy, Ren. How are you going?
I'm very good, Bryce. Very exciting episode. It's always an interesting day when one of the big tech companies declares war on one of our biggest companies, so we'll get into that. But before we get to it, the most exciting thing in the Equity Mates community, in the Equity Mates universe, is coming up towards the end of the year. FinFest is back.
That's right. FinFest is Australia's largest finance festival. Two and a half thousand Australians are going to join us at the Carriageworks on the 24th of October here in Sydney. It's going to be full of educational sessions, some of the best investors, business leaders and entrepreneurs from around Australia. There's bars, entertainment, Ren, you name it, don't miss it.
Yeah, FinFest is for everyone. It's designed to have you leaving feel inspired and ready to take the next step on your investing journey.
What data supports the argument for dollar cost averaging in Australia?
None of it would be possible without the support of BetaShares. So a massive thank you to them for supporting. If you want to sign up for early bird tickets, hit the link in the description or the show notes. Make sure you're signed up because the tickets are going to go quick. It's going to be an epic day.
How does the Equity Mates community portfolio perform compared to the market?
All right, well, let's get into it.
News and markets.
Headlines we're going to cover off today, Apple has declared war on CBA, the AI boom keeps booming, and Ren, apparently we're close to a deal with the Iran war.
Okay, apparently.
But let's start at the top. As you said, one of the world's largest companies is taking on one of Australia's largest companies. Yes. Declared war, Apple v. CBA.
So the battlefield of this war, we should probably stop using war imagery with everything going on in Iran. This dispute is centered on digital wallet payments. They have become a huge part of the payments infrastructure. In Australia, digital wallets now make up roughly 50% of in-store payments. And there's a big turf war going on over who gets to own them. And this turf war has gone to parliament. There's a parliamentary inquiry on at the moment. Apple have explicitly called out Commonwealth Bank, accusing them of spearheading a quote, self-serving push to stifle competition. Certain irony.
I know, I know. Apple running to competition. It's ridiculous.
Our number one stifler of competition in chief with the App Store.
Yeah, like just to do a bit of a tangent, but when we run ads through for Equity Mates, if you use any payment platform through Apple, you have to pay an additional 30%. It's like, what legs do they have to stand on?
Anyway, Apple Podcasts is one of our key distribution partners and we thank them for making podcasts free and accessible.
