Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
Welcome in to the latest edition of ESPN FC. I'm Dan Thomas joined by Craig Burley and Shaka Heslov. Of course, Arsenal fans are still struggling to believe they were beaten at home by Manchester United yesterday.
They are.
Oh, yeah, they are. They are in denial, Craig. They've been in denial all season. The back page of the newspaper is all about that strike from Kunja, of course, that gave United a 3-2 win. Arteta not happy after the game.
Then we have to show the mental strength that we have on the pitch when it comes to match day.
Chapter 2: Why are Arsenal fans struggling to accept their defeat to Manchester United?
We were absolutely brilliant in Milan and today we weren't that good. I don't know if it was mental because of how much they played but because we were poor, especially technically in certain aspects of the game against a team that when you make those mistakes they can punish you big time and that was the difference. It's part of the journey to winning.
And if not, nobody will lose football matches. It's how we react to that. And I am very convinced, because I know those players addressing them and how much we want it, that we're going to react immediately.
We welcome in Mario Malchior. And for the first time this year, Kieran Gibbs.
Oh, what a treat. Isn't that lovely? We always get him back in when there's a bit of Arsenal time. And by the way, before we start, before we start, Moi. What? Only 100 percenter in the snow. Oh my goodness, mate.
We were off.

Chapter 3: What are Mikel Arteta's thoughts on Arsenal's performance after the match?
It was not days off. He's too up here. Kay, Ali, Stevie. I was asked not to come in. Shaq, one day. I was told that was it. Alexis had it all in hand.
Whatever you say, it's fine. I don't begrudge you guys a day off. All I'm saying is... Well, that's good. Only 100%.
Well done. Congratulations. Okay, congrats. I'm not sure if the viewers would agree it's that much of a feat, but there we are. Oh, you should have seen my drive home. Yes, no one cares. All right. Ah, Kieran. Have you got some water for you, Kieran? Nearby? What for? What for, Dan? Just in case you start choking like your side is at the moment. Ah! You're throwing it all away, mate.
What's the most frustrating part of this all for you?
Set pieces. No, no, no. For the record, for the record, I'm actually, I'm not overly concerned. I'm really not. Yeah, but that's because the rest of them are not very good. They're chucking it Arsenal's way, aren't they? But also, I'll be honest, I feel that Arsenal fall into that bracket as well of not being at their full potential. And that's how highly I think of this team.
I think the ceiling is so high that they fall into the bracket of performing sub-maximally. Look, I think... It's one of those, they're not going to concede free goals at home very often in the league. It's either individual errors or moments of brilliance. And that both happened the other night. I don't think it stops them in terms of winning the league. I don't doubt that.
I just think that they've hit a bit of a mental block in terms of their creativity. If I look at teams that have won the league over the years, They always hit a state of flow where everything looks easy and they're just in a rhythm. And I think that for Arsenal, it just feels like they can't break down that barrier.
I think they're going to go and run someone 5-0 in the next game and they're just going to release everything. That's how I feel what's going to happen. They just need that break. They're creating enough chances. But yes, I think ultimately they need to bounce back straight away from this last game and move on. I think they've got the ability to go and win the league.
And yeah, I don't think we have anything to worry about. All right, Arsenal TV.

Chapter 4: How has Virgil Van Dijk responded to Liverpool's defensive issues?
Now, if I'm Victor Xocarez, or Gabriel Jesus, or any other striker, I'm going to Mika Lateta and the coaching staff and say, look, you brought me in to score goals. We have Nani Madweki, we have Martinelli, we have Trossard, we have Bukaya Saka, we have players...
Chapter 5: What excuses did Van Dijk make for Liverpool's goals conceded against Bournemouth?
that can put good quality into the box if they're the best at set pieces and they are that means they've got players that can whip in good balls but when you have seven percent of crosses from open play in a match that you've not had any luck trying to play through the midfield in the middle it hasn't worked
And yeah, you might say, well, they've got Harry Maguire, the big guy with the big, he'll head it away. Yeah, they have. But if you can take it away from Maguire onto Lissandro Martinez, who's much smaller, you may have noticed, you can then go and attack it.
But if I've got front men that are not getting deliveries coming in and they're making runs, and Arsenal continue to go back into Odegaard, back into Zubimendi, back into Rice, out the other side, back again, if I'm the opponent... I am comfortable. I am defending in the width of my penalty box.
I've got numbers back there because I know Arsenal are going to try and break down those little areas, which at times they have been good at. But when you're in a big game, be it the Champions League or the Premier League, and you're struggling, and I've got the sackers of this world, who Shaq has mentioned, hasn't been at his best. And one of the reasons is...
that they're not isolating him enough. They're crowding the area out. He's got no space to operate. And he has to do better himself. He doesn't always have to beat the man half a yard, whip it in, go and attack it. Arsenal have not done that well enough, in my opinion, in the last three or four weeks.
Mario, if Craig can see this, why isn't Arteta addressing this?
No, but sometimes also it comes down to the strike itself. You know, like sometimes we all played with certain forwards. And if you don't put the ball like how, you know, Craig highlighted, if you don't put it in, some of the guys, they fall out with you. They have an argument with you on the field. So it's not always like the strike has to go to the coach.
Sometimes you just have to tell your players around you. But even when I watched the game, like I saw there were moments where men, you know, they had the ball. They played the ball really calmly at the back at the first half. And they didn't look as dangerous. But the moment they wanted to attack, that's when they gave Arsenal a lot of trouble.
And sometimes I'm being asking like, okay, this is the second time, okay, they played a reaction game, you know, like when you watch Arsenal play. But then I see that happen, I'm like, whoa. What's happening? Why are they not really penetrating? Because they couldn't do it. Because the energy that Man United brought to that game, that's where Arsenal had problems with.

Chapter 6: How does Arsenal's current attack compare to their previous performances?
I see everybody running over like it's a school playground. You remember all the kids used to run over? Bunching. And bunching. And when you do that, there's no space. That's why you never made it, apart from the fact you were too small.
we spoke about Manchester United yesterday by the way you can check that out they also are very nice to United as well on the latest edition of the Gab and Jules podcast be sure to check it out We criticise players when they don't speak out. Virgil van Dijk has, and now we're going to tear him apart. But here we go.
He speaks about all three goals that were conceded in Liverpool's defeat against Bournemouth. He explains the first one, it was a difficult ball to judge during the circumstances. The wind is very tricky. The second one, we were down to 10 men. You can argue that you have to maybe kick the ball out or not. The third one, of course, which came from the long throw.
What I felt on the pitch was I was clearly blocked, but obviously the ref and VAR don't give it, and that's something we then have to accept. Excuses. Let's go to defenders. Let's go through this one by one. Mario, wind. Tell me about it.
The wind? No, no, no. Don't give me that, man. Because if I have the wind, that means they have the wind too. So it's not just only for me. That's what people would say. No, if they have a problem, you have the same problem. Look at this. The wind goes. No, he miskicks the ball. He knows that he made a mistake there. Come on now. You can turn around and put your hands up. No, no.
And we have to judge Van Dijk on the ability, what he has. And not on thinking like, oh, he's a little defender. No, he's a great defender. So then you have to deal with that.
OK, so the first one, we're not giving Winders a pass?
No. You know, without going on, because we'll go to the other boys on this, a Dutchman, he's having a... That'll be in the Dutch newspaper tomorrow. What's the Dutch paper, Jack?
I don't know.

Chapter 7: What tactical adjustments does Arsenal need to make to improve their attack?
I'm trying to lure him in. Let's see if there's an extra time question if he wants to come over and stay with me in Miami.
Breaking the cardinal rules of TV here.
Do not tell people where I'm going.
Oh yeah, because you might get abused there.
Not after my trip to the panhandle a few weeks ago.
Craig, you're welcome any time, mate.
You're welcome any time to Miami. How you been, Kieran? You all right, mate?
Yes, all good, mate. All good. Can't complain. I'm not sweating about the Arsenal at all. I was thinking, I want Kieran as my lawyer.
That's a problem. Every player who we've criticised, Kieran has come out in a sterling defence. I know.
