Welcome back to another episode of Excuse My Grandma. It's Kim and my co-host, Grandma Gail. Grandma, today we are going to talk all about travel, traveling with a partner, all of our airport quirks. And obviously you and I are very different when it comes to planning. So I think it'll be a really fun combo. I am taking a trip in just a few days. So we're going to talk about that a little bit. But first, I haven't seen you much. We didn't really catch up in the Hamptons. So how was your fourth weekend and everything else? Okay, well,
You know, the 4th was wonderful. Well, I love the 4th. You know that to me the celebration was terrific and the flags all out and everybody, all the kids were happy. And we had a wonderful, well, it was terribly hot. The weather across the whole eastern seaboard.

I knew it was going to happen. You knew I had to bring this in. We first had, we didn't have the plagues with the locusts, but we had 100 degrees. What is that? you know, the 10 plagues for Passover. We didn't have that. We didn't have that.

What we had was heat that was just intense. We had 100 degree weather starting last Wednesday. So actually, I was glad to get out of the city, but it really was five degrees difference. I never saw my car be 100 degrees in the Hamptons. It was really, really hot with the air conditioning. You don't go to the beach or anything. Well, I don't go in the sun. Because it was way better at the beach. Oh, I'm sure. I'm sure. No, I was in the air conditioning playing cards. So it really, it was delightful where I was. I was fine. But when you went outside, it was like an oven. But okay. We went to a wonderful 4th of July event at someone's home. It was really very nice, small and intimate. And she did a beautiful job.
And then we went out because East Hampton for the first time. had fireworks because they were always worried about the plovers. You know, they're always nesting. Oh, but no, the piping clovers. Yeah, the piping... Isn't it a plover? Is it a plover? Oh, I thought it was piping clover. Not clover.
Is it really? It's a plover bird.
It's a plover bird. They're little tiny birds with long legs. I feel like we talked about this last episode. But anyway, they've had... I didn't realize since they haven't had the fireworks... Oh, you're right.

Yes. I knew that. So they had an overabundance of these birds. So they figured for the 250th celebration, it wouldn't affect the amount of birds because they are inundated with these plovers now. So anyway, they had the fireworks.
Wait, do the fireworks kill the plovers?
No, but they say it disturbs the nesting. So they were worried about that. That's It doesn't worry, Kim. Kim, there are millions of plovers there now. Don't worry. And they only had 15 minutes. So there's millions of people. Well, that's true. It's too many people. That's for sure. They were all on those highways in the Hamptons. But anyway, the fireworks were beautiful. They were on Main Beach in East Hampton. And the kids were all there. I went to the fireworks in Amagansett. And were they nice? Yeah. Yeah, they got pretty close up. It's very nice. But the problem is once the fireworks, and then all of a sudden at 9.15, wherever you were out east, lightning started. So everybody got hysterical. All the beaches were closed, naturally.
The police all got all the kids off the beach. And then there was chaos because there are three roads to go on. And nobody could get home. I was about three and a half minutes from my friend's house. And it took Poppy and I literally 35 minutes to get home.

And it was very scary because those big old trees, wasn't that terrible? And the weight of the trees were coming down. It was a mess out there.
It was actually kind of scary. Zach and I were coming back from dinner in Amaganzit and it should have taken 30 minutes. And after like 45, we were like, okay, we're going to pull in- We actually were going to pull into your house at like 10 p.m., but I didn't want to wake you up. I wasn't home yet.
