It's Thursday afternoon in Memphis, Tennessee, which is a much more reasonable time to podcast than Sunday morning in Las Vegas, Nevada. I think that goes without saying. You look fresh. You feel fresh after getting back home. You look good.
I'm feeling relatively fresh. I left Vegas, I don't know, 36 or so hours after you. Got a little more reporting on the ground. Got a couple stories in. I loved our Sunday morning podcast. An unnamed college assistant on the West Coast hit me yesterday and was like, oh, I can't believe I forgot to text you this. I definitely yelled to perish while he walked through the... Now, you were in the MGM Grand. When he got back to his hotel that night, I was also in whatever part of the lobby, casino, whatever. He saw you, yelled at you, you didn't respond to him. You might as well. I don't know if he was 10 feet away or 100 yards away, but he yelled at you, you didn't respond.
Okay, so I either did not hear... I know I didn't hear it because I would respond. So I didn't hear it, but you... I apologize. I just didn't hear it. But I also got into a little bit of a messy situation in Las Vegas. I had this problem. First night I was there at Las Vegas Summer League, and then we'll get to talking. First night I was there at Las Vegas Summer League. I think I told you. Stop me if I told you this already. But I go straight down to the floor, and I just coincidentally end up standing next to Gary Payton. Gary Parrish and Gary Payton. Right next to each other all night long. So let me tell you what happened the next two hours. GP! GP! And I'm like, Nobody's looking for me, all right?

That's incredible. Gary! Little kid wanting an autograph. GP! Gary! I'm not joking. I walked to a different part of the floor just to get away from him because I... It was just people yelling GP nonstop, and it was never for me. Not one time was it for me. And it made me feel... I'm usually... I ain't trying to brag, but I'm usually... if you rank all the GPs in any room at any given time, I'm usually going to be okay. All right. And then suddenly I found myself with, I think the greatest GP of all time. And I felt real small. I just felt like I had to get away from it. I was confused and small. I walked to the other end of the arena. I'd standing next to this one fella. And I was like, are you famous? He was like a little bit.
I said, what's your, what's, what's your initials? He was like, CD. I was like, perfect. This is perfect. I'll stand right next to you. So I, Anyway, that was probably the 1,000th time I heard GP yelled in my direction in Las Vegas, and perhaps the first time it was yelled for me instead of Gary Pate.
Just a few things on this before we get to GP's column. We had stuff that kind of relates from Vegas to what we're going to talk about here. One, when I was chatting up actually Mike Boynton, coincidentally enough, and Dusty May a few nights ago, there were two kids who would not stop yelling at Kyrie Irving for his autograph. I don't know if he eventually relented, but it was like every 45 seconds until he would give them eye contact or whatever. Two, Michael Jordan in The Last Dance Doc famously said, I had no problem with the glove. GP had a big problem with the glove. He had a major issue with the glove.
As wild as this might sound on a surface level, know that it's true. I had more issues with the glove than Michael Jordan ever did.
That's correct, 100%. And then to the point of just being at Summer League and kind of walking in and milling about and being around people, since we last talked, this must have been Sunday night. What happens at the end of these Summer League games is the next team is getting ready to get onto the floor, and there's just a little bit of crossover.
