Hey everyone, it is Cathy coming to you from the lobby of a hotel. I'm sitting here with my laptop and I'm interjecting in this week's episode because I wanted to run something by you guys, my incredible community over here on this podcast and
So every year I really believe in giving back. I just do some sort of a fundraiser every year and I always try to get people on board. And for the last couple of years, I've done a challenge whereby I get a number of people to do it with me and we do five kilometers every day for the month of May.
What fundraising challenge does the host participate in each year?
And in doing that, we try and raise some money. Listen, I don't need to tell you how quick life can change in an instant. If you're a fan of this podcast, you'll know that. And so that's why I think it's really important to give back because we just never know when we might need help as a family ourselves. This year, I chose a charity or a cause that is very close to my own heart. Graham Lee is a professional jockey from Galway in Ireland. He has had the most phenomenal career. He has won the most prestigious of races, including the Grand National and the Ascot Gold Cup. He also happens to be my husband's first cousin. Unfortunately, in November of 2023, Graeme had a fall whilst on a race course and he is now paralysed from the neck down.
I can't even explain to you how devastating this injury is and how life-changing it is for him and his family. I went to visit him a couple of months ago. We stayed with him for the weekend and it's just, it changes everything and touches so many aspects of daily life for them. He needs a lot of help and support. And he has been largely supported by the Injured Jockeys Fund. The reason I come to you guys is because every week you sent me the most beautiful, heartfelt messages about how much this podcast helps you and that it's a lifeline for you, really. And I just thought I am trying so hard to raise as much money as possible for you. the Injured Jockeys Fund in Graham's name. And I just thought that I would reach out to you amazing people that if you did feel like you could do something small and a small good deed for the day and help us in our fundraiser, I would be so grateful.
