Every week I say that. Today I'm joined by Maeve Keegan. Hi Maeve. Hi Cathy, how are you? It's lovely. to have you here thank you for having me it's a nice sunny day in Dublin you don't know what way to dress these days I know I'd be too hot that's it I don't know if that's the age I'm getting to but come here it's lovely to meet you we've had a couple of chats before we decided to sit down yeah and you are going to speak to me about your husband Mark yes You have quite a, I suppose, complex, I would call it, story. So, you know, as always, a good place to start is to go back to the beginning. Absolutely. Which is a little bit of time ago.

Yes, all the way back. Tell me, where did you meet Mark?
So I moved to Dublin in 1985 into the big city. I moved from Sligo and I was living my best life, as they say now. And I met Mark in a pub, which all my friends went to. And what stood out for him to me was like he was very non-cool. Okay. It wasn't him with the cool kids. He was wearing like a cardigan and like kind of old man clothes almost. And I was like, who's that? But he was intriguing. Right. You know, we hit it off straight away on a kind of mental level. Yeah. And I did end up kissing him that night, but I wasn't looking for anything serious. So I was like, look, dude, not going to happen.
Yeah.
have a nice night you know and he said but there's something I like I'd love to stay in touch and I was like that's a bit weird because this was the days before you weren't swapping mobiles or anything it was harder to stay in touch yeah so I was in a house of bedsits in Balls Bridge and I gave him the number of the road that was it And thought, well, that's that. I'll never see him again.
No Instagram back then. No Instagram, no nothing.
No location services. So anyway, he knocked on the door one day and that was the start of a friendship. Knocked on the door. He knocked on the door. There was 10, 12 bedsits. And I hadn't even said the number of the bedsits. So he just like hammered in the door till someone picked up and I happened to be there.

So there started a beautiful friendship. Yes.
We became friends then.
Friends. And I was very clear. There's been no monkey business. We are friends. And I thought, again, any day I won't hear from him again, but he really committed to the friendship. Okay. He was a lovely, lovely guy. Really had only two or three close friends.
Yeah.
Like I would have been a more of a social butterfly. Loads of people was always out.
