Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
Camouflage isn't just for the woods. It's for looking cool. Camerado makes gear that disappears in nature but looks good at Costco. Zero tactical cringe. Camerado. C-A-M-O-R-A-D-O dot com.

Welcome to the AR-15 Podcast. If this show is for you, if you just bought your first rifle, or you've been building them for years, there's something we can all do to take our black rifles to the next level. My name is Nick Dooley. I am joined tonight by two very special guests. We have Sam Alexander, and never mind the fact that he is an AK commie.
Only sometimes it's only sometimes because $20 is $20.
I mean, you're getting that much.
Uh, and also with us, we have, you've seen him before. You, you, you've heard us speak with him. We have quick of 47. He is here not to be Dave from high point, but to actually be himself. I'm always myself though. That's just it. I know.
Um,
So, guys, thanks so much for jumping on with us tonight. And before we jump in, which I'm sure, like, I realized after I put the show title in, like, this would have been an amazing 80s, like, anthem. Like, you know, that's like a total power metal thing.
Yeah. I was digging it.

Chapter 2: What are Laser Aiming Modules (LAM) and their significance?
It'd be a nipple on that one, but I, I like that was back before I started playing with a cannon and stuff like that. So I was like, Oh, I could, I could find this and, you know, work with it. But now I'm going to just not and go, all right, I have percussion caps because I acquired them somewhere for something else.
I just need to go find myself a bottle of Triple F so I don't have to worry about overcharge.
Just fucking compact it and they're really good. Well, that's why I said Triple F. And then you need to JB weld a top rail on it and then put a fucking laser aiming module on there and off you go.
Throw a Gideon and a laser and off you go.
Yes, exactly. Like do all the things where it's like, all right. Yes. And a, and a vertical foregrip.
Absolutely. Gotta have a vertical. Yeah.
Yeah. That's, that's, that's a, a thing that we need to do. I may do that, but I'm just, it's more of a, that was neat, but with the aging yourself thing,
going through some stuff and it's like oh here you know boxes of stuff from high school that i'm like great high school newspapers and things that thanks for holding on to these mom is my daughter standing beside me i'm like it's like what are we gonna do with those i'm like throw them away but we'll come back and get these later she pulls out she's like dad what is this it holds up a game boy advance oh my god iraq
It was advanced. It was the Game Boy Advance color, not screen. You can't see it ever. I had just a fistful of games for it. She's like, oh... This is so awesome. So she has been playing Mario Kart and Freak Style Motocross.

Chapter 3: How does FDA regulation affect aiming lasers?
Because I was planning on heading to the range because I am pushing the PSA AK-101 behind me. I'm trying to push it up to 300 rounds. So I was going to go do about 500 rounds on Monday, but we have gotten so little snow in Colorado, they closed down all the National Forest land for shooting, which kind of tanked that plan.
So now I have to go back to freaking... I got to go mooch off somebody for a range membership at like... at like Frontier Sportsman's Club or some shit like that. First world problems, man.
Where you're located, just go to Dragon Man's.
No. I don't care if the man has a T-55 hidden away. I'm not going to Dragon Man's. And an M62. Yep.
Dave, do you get to go out and do anything fun since you shot Moons out?
No.
Yeah, went and shot an IDPA match, like opener for the season, just because lower round count when I'm feeding my son shooting. USPSA has gotten too expensive ammo-wise, so IDPA a little bit slower paced, but lower round count is a good thing. I learned if you're not wearing a cotton t-shirt,
you got to check what you're doing because I was carrying appendix running a, uh, like a higher collar, like rugby shirt and like, like a Jersey. And they had so much stretch to it that when I grabbed my shirt was pulling up, it was still catching on the grip. And I go to grab them like, Oh, what the hell? I'm looking down. I'm like, pull my shirt up more.
And then grabbing the damn guns was like, all right, this is some horse shit. I think once the, uh, the sun came out, I took that off, put on a sun shirt, a Camarado sun shirt. So that didn't have as much stretch. So when I give the good pool and go for the grip, it's there. I was like, Oh, this is, this is better. So stretchy shirt, not such a great thing.

Chapter 4: What are the differences between IR and visible lasers?
And he's like, what the fuck is that?
If you send it to him, I bet we can work something out, which is what I would probably do.
And then four, then four months later, it's like, all right, I made your holster. Fuck you. Never call me again.
Oh, shit. No. So, uh, yeah. And, uh, let's see. Rimfire radio says, uh, he got his first clicker this week and it's great. I need to get me one still. I, uh, I love that. And, uh, Bob from Gideon is in the chat and you just missed us discussing, uh, night vision capability on a lot of the Gideon stuff.
And, uh, you tuned into a, uh, a very interesting crossover episode or, you know, crossover adjacent episode, uh,
put that down dave you haven't even looked through it yet because we are here to talk about looking through right now and night vision and stuff oh shit i left my nods upstairs oh well that's okay i have mine in the you know if i wasn't there it briefly went through my head to be like man you could just do this episode wearing them then my freaking computer screen's too light right too bright but then you wouldn't be able to see me anyway
well that's where they have the oh the irises the irises the apertures my favorite thing about those apertures is reading one time about some dudes who are being all operator shit wearing them at the range in the daytime with their irises closed down and they just turn their their freaking tubes to spaghetti because the sun like yeah you get for wearing them in the daytime yeah
like no i uh i get like ultra ultra nervous about mine sometimes i'm like no they're in there they're in their dark bag and stuff because i don't want lens caps never come off until they're ready to be used yeah but you guys have lens caps well i will say uh I was at SHOT Show one year and was down talking to the guys from Ricks when they had their Jerry's first kind of coming up.
They're like, oh, yeah, check these out. I was like, oh, yeah, poop, poop, and turned them on in the middle of the show, and I'm like, ah!

Chapter 5: Why is white light still necessary with IR lasers?
Yeah. No, I just sat on mine. And again, it was because we had our, we had the glow sticks tied to our backs to keep them, you know, behind us. Cause which was still a bad idea. Cause the way the lighting condition was, the glow sticks were just blinding the shit out of all of us. I'm sorry. That was the second night.
First night we have on our helmets and I was blinding the shit out of everybody. Like you couldn't even walk hardly the paths because everybody's glow sticks are too damn bright. So night two, we tied them around our waist, our waist, our belts. And I'd sat down. after running a drill and I got up and I don't, I put my hand back to now. What the hell?
Of course, my nods, my hands like a predator, like just glowing radioactive. I'm like, yeah, what the shit? Oh my God. He's like, uh, dude, I think you broke your chem light. I'm like, oh shit. I'm like trying to fiddle with it. And dude's like, do you make cut off? Like, yeah, please. Cause I clearly not going to get to it with night vision on all this shit. It's like,
We're not turning any red lights on here. He says, yes, please cut me free and I'll find another one.
I fucking can't watch it everywhere.
Anyway.
Well, and the worst... Then you throw out an IR chem light and can't see them because some jackass behind you has IR floods on their throttle.
Yeah. Wonder who that'd be. Right hand drive motherfucker.
But... So when I have, I've shot a lot with a late, with a laser, you know, under nods, but, uh, I am very limited on what devices I have shot with. Right. because now I have moved on to four total night vision or four total devices. I'll say five because, uh, I had one for a very short amount of time that, uh, survived one range trip before it was like, yep, this thing's junk.

Chapter 6: What experiences do guests share about using night vision?
Except for you really do miss an illuminator on those really dark nights. If you've got a moon or three quarter moon, we can get away with it just fine. But no moon at all. It's like, well, I can't freaking see the target. Shoot it. Gay. And then the other half rounds I have on a. Oh, I forget the freaking manufacturer. U.S. Night Vision sells them. It's the DIR-1V.
So not the DIR-V, which has a visible laser attached to it. This is IR only, which I actually have to get RMA'd back to the manufacturer because it's a 3D printed... Oh, yeah. I don't fucking drop it. It's a 3D-printed housing, and the nut internal to it that the crossbolt threads into is free-spinning right now.
So you try and get it tightened, it gets right up to the point, and then it goes, look, and then it starts all over again.
Damn.
So... I've sent them an email though. I'm pretty sure it'll get taken care of. Um, B E infrared or something like that. I forget the exact manufacturer. I bought it through a us night vision, but that has been an excellent little laser. It's got a V cell illuminator on it. So illuminating shit after 300 or so yards is no big deal right now.
It's riding on the side of my crank just because I needed a place to put it. And that thing sits pretty flat, pretty low to the rail, doesn't it? It sits very low to the rail, which is actually a problem with the Midwest industry's AK rails. You know, it wouldn't be a problem if you're in ARs.
Well, you know what the biggest problem is? That's fucking boring. You know what the biggest problem is with an AK?
Yeah.
That's an AK? No, they don't make VZ grips for them because the unique features of VZ grips is a machine from a solid block of G10. And G10 is great because it's durable. It doesn't get slippery when covered with mud, blood, or sweat. The 17-inch grip angle and wide variety of textures from Mobile Extreme as well as color options and shorty versions are also available.

Chapter 7: How do different night vision devices compare in performance?
Okay, okay. Because I'll be like, I'll walk these things out and people will be like, what the hell are you wearing?
I think Commando Store was selling those for a little while and I was like, oh. Unexpensive as shit. If I had fuck you money right now.
Most people don't know what they are. They'll be like, what the hell is a PVS-21? They go, okay. What the hell are we doing here? Oh, you run a pair of 14s bridged? Nope. What the hell are those?
This is PG-25s that are bridged on a double thermal So Rick's the same company that made, uh, you know, that brings you the Jerry's. Um, these are a, a very small, very lightweight, um, single, you know, single tube. And I bought one cheap and then I bought a second one cheap, um, Okay. And after it was all said and done, I have essentially a green phosphorus set of Jerry's with extra parts. And
I mean, you've only got like five different mounts glued together there. It's a lot of shit going on. You're only stacking a lot of tolerances.
There's only, there's only one mount because it's, it's a, it's a, it's even a Wilcox. It's a Wilcox.
Is it a real Wilcox though?
It's a real Wilcox.
I have, well, it's currently with my, uh, speaking of that guy who drives a right-hand Prado that's hanging out with him, but my psionics I had, I mounted on a Chinese Wilcox. And when I held my real Wilcox and the Chinese one together, I was like, I feel like I'm getting ripped off here. Right. Right. They both have the same amount of wiggle.

Chapter 8: What are the best practices for using night vision in the field?
Yeah. And it'll even, so one thing about it is you can Bluetooth some of like, they had an optic that you can Bluetooth to it. which is just like great for interference. But I just really love the concept of doing the Somali actually.
Well, that's back to what, Oh, what did they call that back in fricking 2000?
I've done that with these. Yeah. Well, not the corner. Yeah, well, those, yeah, you could just stick your head out a little bit. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. They have a thermal add-on to these. And I got to demo with some of the Steiner guys back in the day. They had an optic thermal scope on a rifle. And that's what he had me do. He literally had me kind of do the Somali thing.
So my right eye was the overlay from the scope. So I was like, I had a crosshair. I'm like, oh, holy shit, let's cant it this way. Fire the shot, fire the shot. I'm like, oh, that's badass. I'm like... you know, on these old ass things. Yeah. On the 21. So like, no, that shit's, that's just real. It's dope, man. To come back to that with some more augmented reality shit, that'd be cool as shit.
Yeah. And then when you, when you look into that and, uh, moving in with like integrated attack and stuff like that where you can pull up and kind of paint where things are and oh that'd be so cool yeah it's it's so cool and so good for like a quarter of the percent of the military right and then the other one is i've told the story before about like the first time i used nods in the army
And they just went through randomly. They're like, Hey, you guys are doing this night convoy in Iraq. And they just like, we've got six pairs of nods for this 30 truck convoy. And she goes doing blackout drive. All right. And they come running to me. Cause they're like, you're a saw gunner. Yup. Here. Let's hand me a set of nods.
And it has like the strap on deal for my Kevlar to give me the mount.
Yeah, the old, like, almost a Pazgett mount that went around to the back and hooked to the back of your helmet. Yep.
It had, like, a ratchet strap to tighten everything up.
