Uh we had the cricket on and the kitchen but without any uh volume on and then Louise yeah to didn't hear your tones, but uh then my wife Louise just shouts through from the next room and goes, Stokes he's retired. I was like, What do you mean? And he's on the T V and uh she said, No, it's just this notification's coming Ben Stokes has retired. So literally turned up the volume to hear yourself and Athers saying that Ben Stokes has announced his interest for retirement. And then I've just shouted, no way. And she's like, what is it? I was like, he's just taken a wicket, like as um, you know, as this announcement's gone, and I said like it couldn't be more Ben Stokes.
But um yeah, at home and weirdly felt really sad. Mm-hmm.
It's my overriding emotion at the moment. Yeah.
Yeah. Um so a bit of like disbelief and um played lots of cricket with Stokesy being the same age, you know, we played our under nineteens together. So um just sort of like yeah, a real person of sort of my cohort to to retire. Um so it's that element of it and then just the magnitude of of Ben Stokes, the England cricketer, and just sort of trying to unders you know, imagine an England team without Ben in it and without him captaining it. So um yeah, it's strange. I think obviously there's so many congratulations to send to him on what has been I I think the most influential England cricketer ever. I know it's hard to sort of look across generations and that kind of thing and I haven't seen some you know, someone like Beefy
playing his pump, but um yeah, I just trying to like think of a player that could affect the game.

But um Yeah, I I just felt a bit sad and I I know you were pretty emotional last night in the uh the emergency pod with um with our producer Chuck. But yeah, how do you see it now? Another day on and obviously you've had a day at Trent Bridge uh with the news, you know, really sinking in, I suppose.
