What winter weather impacts are expected on the East Coast?
A winter storm over the mid-Atlantic coast. I'm Ron Chester in Fox News. A powerful nor'easter set to slam parts of the East Coast this weekend, and it could bring the heaviest snow in decades to the Carolinas. Fox weather meteorologist Mark Seidel reporting from Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, with the latest.
The worst of the weather here by far will be tonight into early Sunday morning. And by Sunday at sunrise, most of the snow, if not all of it, will have fallen. And at that point, we could have as much as a foot on the ground. And combine that with 50 to 60 mile an hour wind gusts, maybe some 70 mile an hour wind gusts, especially out in the buoys.
where they're talking about 10 to 20-foot waves offshore. The tide is now going out, and so the beach is getting wider. Low tide was at 613, so we've got another high tide after lunchtime. The high tides of concern are tonight, this evening, but more importantly, tomorrow morning, around 7 a.m. here on the northern Outer Banks.
The Carolinas and Georgia have declared states of emergency. A partial government shutdown's begun, though lawmakers are hoping it won't last for very long. Fox's Madeline Rivera in Washington with more.
Most federal offices are closed through the weekend, so the effects of the shutdown may be minimal if the House votes to pass the bill when they return to D.C. on Monday. The package only funds DHS for two weeks, and during that time, Dems say they'll have negotiations on how to overhaul immigration enforcement.
In a call with House Republicans on Friday, House Speaker Mike Johnson said he wants a vote on the Senate deal Monday night. Johnson saying, I'm going to encourage you. No, I'm going to beg you to get back on Sunday night. It's very frustrating. I have been very frustrated by all of this, but I've got to tip my hat to the president. He knows the art of the deal.
Not clear how many will support the revised package. America is listening to Fox News.
