Chapter 1: Who is the suspect in the synagogue attack outside Detroit?
The suspect named. I'm Lisa Lucera, Fox News. The Department of Homeland Security has released the name of the man authorities say was behind this afternoon's attack at a synagogue outside Detroit.
Law enforcement sources tell Fox the suspect has been preliminarily identified as Ayman Mohamed Ghazali, a 41-year-old Lebanese national who lived nearby in Dearborn. He entered the country in 2011 under a immigrant visa as the spouse of a U.S. citizen and then became a U.S. citizen himself in 2016 during the Obama administration.
As for a possible motive, sources close to the investigation tell our local Fox affiliate that Ghazali's family in Lebanon... was killed in an airstrike this past weekend during the war with Iran.

Chapter 2: What led to the shooting incident at Old Dominion University?
Authorities say Ghazali was armed with a rifle and drove his vehicle into the synagogue. The vehicle caught fire. He was shot and killed by private security. The FBI says the incident is a targeted attack against the Jewish community. And the FBI says ROTC students subdued and killed the gunman who yelled Allahu Akbar that opened fire in their classroom at Old Dominion University this afternoon.
Their professor was killed.
The person who was killed was a lieutenant colonel by the name of Brandon Shaw. He was a professor of military science and the leader of the university's ROTC program. We're talking about a veteran who earned not one, but two bronze stars. He was killed.
Chapter 3: How are the Texas lawsuits challenging the exclusion of Islamic schools from the voucher program?
Two others were hurt during that shooting at ODU.
Fox's Kevin Cork, the suspect, Mohammed Baylor Jalloh, was a former member of the National Guard who pled guilty in 2016 to attempting to provide material support to ISIS. He'd been sentenced to 11 years in prison, but was released from federal custody in December. FBI Director Kash Patel says the shooting is being investigated as an act of terrorism. Muslim parents in three private schools are suing Texas leaders for excluding Islamic private schools from participating in the state's voucher program.
The two federal lawsuits ask the court to block the voucher program from discriminating on the basis of religion.

A group linked to ISIS claimed responsibility for one of Russia's deadliest ever terror attacks. 149 people were killed, more than 600 wounded, when four armed men went on the rampage at the Krokus City Hall concert venue in Moscow in March 2024. The attackers then set the building on fire. All 19 defendants were handed long prison terms of at least 19 years.
They include the gunman, along with others from whom they purchased a car and rented an apartment.
