State Department spokesman Tommy Piggott just told Fox 20,000 have returned to the U.S. since the fighting started. We're identifying specific individuals with specific options in order to depart the region.
That includes moving people from areas where airspace is closed to where airspace is open, where they might be able to get a charter or commercial flight.
But more than 2,000 flights are canceled again today as the attacks on Iran continue. This morning, approximately 90 Israeli Air Force fighter jets completed the 12th wave of strikes in Tehran. This is going to keep up. This pace is going to keep up, according to officials here and in the U.S. that we're talking to.
Chapter 2: How are U.S. citizens being evacuated from the region?
And Fox's Trey Inkston, Tel Aviv, says Iran continues to launch missiles into Israel. He was standing in front of the shell of one that was shot down. The conflict has disrupted fuel shipments in the region. Oil prices up again today, 5%. And so is what we're paying at the gas pump, rising 26 cents a gallon the past three days.

And while the White House says oil prices may spike in the short term, ultimately they believe that costs will be lower when the Iranian regime no longer controls this critical shipping lane.
