What that deal would see is that DHS funding bill be split away from the package of five other appropriations bills. Those five other bills have broad bipartisan support. They could pass those separately.
Chapter 2: What is the White House's plan to prevent a government shutdown?
What would then happen with the DHS bill is they would use what's called a two-way two-week continuing resolution to fund DHS for two weeks while they negotiate what they want to do with this ICE money. The problem with that is by changing anything about this package of bills, it would then have to be bounced back to the House.
Fox's Bill Malujian at the Capitol. The House will be back in session until next week, though House Republicans are expected to hold a conference call tomorrow to discuss details of the plan. In a surprise move, President Trump said this evening he would announce his choice to replace Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell tomorrow after saying the announcement would be made next week.
The president has scolded Powell for not lowering interest rates, which he says will spur the economy. Powell's term expires in May. A man has been charged after federal agents say he planned to kill then-President Biden.
Adam Benjamin Hall of Alabama has been charged with interstate stalking. The Secret Service alleges he drove to Atlanta for the 2024 debate between President Biden and then-candidate Donald Trump. An affidavit from Secret Service says Hall told students at his community college about plans to kill Biden, adding Joe Biden was or is like one foot and four toes in the grave already.
Hall told agents he went to the wrong venue and didn't have time to get to the debate, so he went back to Alabama.
