Two iconic statues are about to get new homes at Philadelphia's Art Museum.
The statue of heavyweight champion Smokin' Joe Frazier, currently outside the South Philly Sports Complex, will move this spring to the base of the Philadelphia Museum of Art steps, taking the spot now held by the original Rocky statue. The move is to honor Frazier, a Philly native and boxing legend, with a more prominent place in the city.
The original Rocky statue will move inside for a temporary exhibit, then be permanently placed at the top of the steps. The Rocky replica, currently at the top of the steps, is expected to be returned to Sylvester Stallone. City officials say the change recognizes both the fictional icon and the real-life champion.
