What happened during the shooting incident involving federal agents in Portland?
A man and a woman shot by federal agents in Portland. I'm Sue Guzman, Fox News. Two people hospitalized after they were shot by federal immigration agents in Portland, Oregon. Details from Fox's Kevin Cork.
The shooting unfolded after Border Patrol agents stopped a car, and that's when agents identified themselves as officers. to the people in the car, both of whom are believed to have been affiliated with the criminal Venezuelan gang Trende Aragua. Now, allegedly, after being contacted by cops, they tried to run over the agents.
DHS tells Fox the agents only fired because they feared for their safety. After that shooting, the driver and passenger, both of whom were hit, drove off, only to be found about 10 minutes later. Portland officials are concerned that the city could be an emotional powder keg, and so they're urging calm.
Portland Mayor Keith Wilson calling on ICE to halt its deportation efforts until a full investigation is completed. Portland police say it's unknown if those shot were immigrants or if it was immigration-related. Protests continued for a second day in Minneapolis Thursday, following the death of a driver at the hands of an ICE agent. Fox's Garrett Tenney.
The Minnesota National Guard is on standby in case protests get out of hand. We did see more than a dozen people arrested at a protest outside a federal building where demonstrators were throwing water bottles at Border Patrol. State officials are crying foul, claiming they have been pushed out of the investigation into this shooting that is now being led solely by the FBI.
Minnesota's Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan posted, I don't trust the Trump administration to conduct this investigation. We need a full, independent, and transparent investigation led by state and local law enforcement.
