Chapter 1: What are the latest developments in the Minneapolis anti-ICE protests?
Anti-ice protests ratcheting up in Minneapolis. I'm Sue Guzman, Fox News. Protests underway in Minneapolis outside the Whipple Federal Building in response to ice operations and two shootings. Fox's Alexis McAdams has more.
30 people. They try to climb the fence. They've got the masks. They've got the gear. I asked those protesters, you're here to protect your neighbors. We hear it from the governor. We hear it from the mayor of Minneapolis. Who are the neighbors? I asked a few of the protesters. You appear to protect the guy who DHS says was in the country illegally that is wanted for murder.
And they say, no, that is not true. They're taking American citizens into custody. So the smell of tear gas ongoing here.
State of Minnesota and cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul are suing the Department of Homeland Security to try to stop the surge in agents. Border Czar Tom Homan tells Fox the government is investigating whether the protests are being funded. President Trump is threatening meantime to deploy the military in response.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem says she has discussed the insurrection act with President Trump.
He certainly has the constitutional authority to utilize that. My hope is that this leadership team in Minnesota will start to work with us to get criminals off the streets.
In a Truth Social post, President Trump says if politicians in Minnesota don't obey the law and stop professional agitators from attacking ICE agents, he will institute the Insurrection Act. allowing a president to deploy military assets to suppress civil disorder. Nomes' DHS has no plans to pull out of Minnesota. At the White House, Jared Halpern, Fox News.
The U.S. and Taiwan have reached a trade deal to build microchips and chip factories in the United States. The Commerce Department says Taiwanese chip and tech companies will invest at least $250 billion in production capacity in the U.S. In exchange, the U.S. will reduce reciprocal tariffs to 15% and also commit to zero reciprocal tariffs on pharmaceuticals. A token of appreciation for President Trump, the likes of which he has never received before. Venezuela's opposition leader, Maria Corina Machado, says she gave her Nobel Peace Prize medal to the president, describing it as a historic gesture recognizing his commitment to freedom and the fight against tyranny.
And speaking of Venezuela, another oil tanker linked to Venezuela was seized in the Caribbean by the Department of War. That makes it now six oil tankers captured.
