historic blizzard pummels the northeast. I'm Sue Guzman, Fox News. Well, the northeast is recovering today after it was slammed by a monster blizzard Monday. This winter storm is now headed to the New England region. Fox Weather's Brandi Campbell is in Boston and
has the latest. Boston is one of the cities that did have those blizzard conditions here. So yes, we got a lot of snow. We also had some winds gusting nearly 70 miles per hour, but we've had some pretty impressive records just across the Northeast and the Mid-Atlantic. So we're going to start in
Central Park in New York City, where they got nearly 20 inches of snow, establishing the blizzard as one of the most powerful winter storms in the city's history. Now, over in Rhode Island, they had 37.9 inches of snow reported. That broke their longest standing record, making this the greatest snowstorm in Providence's history. Their last record was 28.6 inches of snow.
Thousands of flights were canceled. Americans ordered to shelter in place after Mexico's military killed El Mencho, the leader of the Jalisco New Generation. Cartel members now retaliate.
American tourists in Mexico are facing a second night under State Department shelter in place orders for Puerto Vallarta and surrounding areas. El Mencho's henchmen responded by taking to the streets, killing dozens of people in stores, gas stations, roadways, all burned. Flights in and out of the area were grounded. Mexico's president is urging calm.
The most important thing at this moment is to guarantee the peace and security of the entire population of all of Mexico. Mexican officials plan to arrest El Mencho, but he opened fire and fled to nearby woods where he was later found. He died from gunshot injuries.
Fox's Jillian Turner and the New York Post is reporting Mexico has handed over more than 100 drug cartel leaders to the U.S. after the killing of El Mencho. America's listening to Fox News.
