Chapter 1: What is causing the unrest in Minnesota?
There may soon be more boots on the ground in Minneapolis. I'm Jack Callahan, Fox News. Minnesota National Guard troops are being mobilized as protests continue to disrupt federal immigration operations. As Fox's Matt Finn reports from Minneapolis.
Today, we expect more demonstrations and protests. We're heading into week three of unrest here in Minnesota and the clashes between law enforcement and demonstrators showing no signs of slowing down. And a short while ago, President Trump posted on Truth Social, quote, ICE is removing some of the most violent criminals in the world from our country and bringing them back home where they belong.
Why is Minnesota fighting this? Do they really want murderers and drug dealers to be ensconced in their community? The thugs that are protesting include many highly paid professional agitators and anarchists. Is this really what Minnesota wants? Now, there was another tense scene here yesterday outside of the federal ICE facility.
Chapter 2: How is the federal government responding to protests?
Law enforcement holding the line against angry protesters who can be heard screaming, kill yourself and un-American to officers.
Pentagon has also ordered 1,500 active duty soldiers to prepare for possible deployment to Minnesota if violence there continues to escalate. Justice Department expected to appeal a federal judge's ruling that limits the use of tear gas against demonstrators. President Trump nearing a decision on a new chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Fox's Jared Halperin reports.
President Trump has narrowed a list of finalists to just a few names, including the director of the National Economic Council, Kevin Hassett. I actually want to keep you where you are if you want to know the truth. Kevin Hassett is so good. I'm saying, wait a minute. President Trump has been harshly critical of outgoing Chairman Jerome Powell. His term expires in May.
The president accuses Powell of playing politics with monetary policy and overspending for renovations at the Fed's headquarters. But even some Senate Republicans have warned about President Trump's influence on the Fed and have raised concerns about the Fed's independence. At the White House, Jared Halpern, Fox News.
