White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt says the two sides remain far apart on some issues, but more talks are expected, mediated by Oman. Leavitt also says the president wants the government to be open. As a homeland security funding shutdown continues over Democrat demands for immigration enforcement reforms. The White House calls the latest offer from Democrats not serious.
Democrats say the White House needs to accept more changes. A billionaire, former friend of Jeffrey Epstein, is giving a deposition to the House Oversight Committee.
Staff attorneys went to the home of 88-year-old billionaire Les Wexner to take his deposition in New Albany, Ohio. Fox News Digital obtained his opening statement in which Wexner said he's pleased to testify to set the record straight, that he's been the subject of outrageous and untrue statements, but also that his heart goes out to the survivors of Epstein's crimes.
Now, as far as his relationship with Epstein, Wexner said he didn't socialize with him, but hired Epstein and gave him power of attorney over financial matters as Wexner's retail empire grew. However, as Epstein's legal troubles grew in 2007, Wexner and his wife found Epstein had been stealing from them and they cut ties nearly 20 years ago.
Wexner said Epstein was a con man and he regrets ever having met him.
Fox's Jessica Rosenthal, the committee chair, has said video and a transcript of the testimony will be made public. Rescue crews facing another day of treacherous conditions in their search for nine backcountry skiers missing after an avalanche in the mountains near Lake Tahoe in California. Six others were found alive, rescued yesterday.
Heavy snow and the threat of additional avalanches continues to slow that rescue effort. America is listening to Fox News.
