Governor Mark Gordon has signed a new law banning most abortions. Once embryonic cardiac activity is detected, typically around six weeks of pregnancy, the move makes Wyoming the fifth state with a so-called heartbeat ban, joining Florida, Georgia, Iowa, and South Carolina. Thirteen other states already ban abortion at all stages with limited exceptions. Despite calls from President Trump to show some guts, the Strait of Hormuz remains empty. Kepler tracking data shows just one vessel crossing the Strait of Hormuz with its transponder on in the past 24 hours, and that vessel wasn't carrying oil. On a typical day, the Strait would be buzzing with vessels, even empty oil tankers they load and send back. Now that is paralyzed, according to the head oil analyst at Kepler, Matt Smith. It's not just the fact that those tankers cannot leave the Mid-East Gulf. It's the fact that you cannot get ballast, empty tankers in to load any more crude. And while Kuwait, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar have cut production to the tune of at least six million barrels a day, oil is trading below its highs on optimism that global reserves will be tapped.
And President Trump says he does not want to sign anything else before passing the Save America Act, the voter integrity legislation requiring photo identification, proving U.S. citizenship at election polls.
This would sidetrack virtually everything else in the Senate. Keep in mind that you can pass something in the Senate, in the House of Representatives, and send it to the president, and it can become law. even if he doesn't sign it within 10 days, Sundays excluded. So maybe they could get the DHS funding deal done that way. But there's no impetus to get there right now. He is putting all of his eggs in one basket on trying to pass the Save America Act.
