What severe weather is impacting the Northeast this winter?
Life-threatening cold in the Northeast. I'm Carmen Roberts, Fox News. A polar vortex is bringing the coldest temperatures so far this winter. Fox's Brandi Campbell is in Boston, which is also the bullseye for at least three to five inches of snow today.
This isn't the first snow of the winter. Boston has seen 24% above average snow to date, with just over 34 inches to fall this season. And after this snow... They're also going to have to deal with the coldest temperatures of the season. Temperatures could dip into the single digits overnight going into the big game day this Sunday. This type of weather causes havoc out on the roads. And if you're flying today, we are already seeing a rise in cancellations and delays as many airports in the Northeast are also having to de-ice airplanes before they take off.
FBI agents are investigating a new message in the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie in Tucson, and it's prompted deputies and agents to conduct another sweep of her home. Fox's Jonathan Hunt tells us what was missing from the message.
That message was received by one of the local TV outlet in Tucson. It appears that that did not contain the proof of life that the Guthrie family so desperately wants to see. It did not establish any two-way communication between these purported kidnappers and the Guthrie family, and it did not put in, as far as we're aware, any new deadlines. So the very consequential deadline remains sometime on Monday.
And no word what would happen after that deadline passes. Prosecutors charged an Ohio man with threatening to kill Vice President J.D. Vance during a visit to the state last month. They say Shannon Mathery made the threat online, prompting a Secret Service investigation. His attorney argues that Mathery's physical and mental state issues make that threat unrealistic. More anti-ICE protests in Minnesota as Homeland Security reports an increase in death threats. Fox's Stephen Harrigan reports.
A lot of these death threats are actually coming over social media. What we see is a real attempt by Minnesota politicians to get inside an ICE detention center to try and see the conditions, which they say are overcrowded. On Friday, three politicians tried to get in. One was allowed in. And more protests continue around the city. Last night, out in front of the governor's mansion, a small group urging the governor to move faster to get ICE agents out of Minneapolis. 700 are leaving, still about 2,000 here. And the unrest is really hitting the economy here bad. Many shop owners, restaurant owners saying this is actually worse than COVID. They're having trouble with their staff. City officials say because of the unrest, the city of Minneapolis losing $10 to $20 million each week.
And this comes after federal agents shot and killed two U.S. citizens in separate incidents. Those two people were Renee Good and Alex Preddy. Millions of people will tune in to the Super Bowl halftime show tomorrow, which features the Latin singer Bad Bunny. But Turning Point USA is offering an alternative show. Fox's Christina Coleman reports.
Organizers say the show was, quote, an opportunity for all Americans to enjoy a halftime show with no agenda other than to celebrate faith, family and freedom. Kid Rock is going to headline the show.
