Chapter 1: What winter weather impacts are expected on the East Coast?
A winter storm over the mid-Atlantic coast. I'm Roger Stern, Fox News. A nor'easter is sweeping across parts of the East Coast this weekend. Fox's Christina Coleman with the latest.
As the storm strengthens, it will likely become a bomb cyclone. Snow is expected to rapidly expand across the higher terrain of Virginia, the Carolinas, and into northern Georgia. Saturday appears to be the day when the bulk of the snowfall occurs in this region. Some travelers are already bracing for flight cancellations and delays due to the storm.
There's also some concern over powerful winds during high tide Sunday morning that could increase the risk for coastal flooding in some locations.
The storm could also hit the northeast. A partial government shutdown has begun, though lawmakers are hoping it won't last for very long. Fox's Madeline Rivera in Washington with more.
Most federal offices are closed through the weekend, so the effects of the shutdown may be minimal if the House votes to pass the bill when they return to D.C. on Monday. The package only funds DHS for two weeks, and during that time, Dems say they'll have negotiations on how to overhaul immigration enforcement.
In a call with House Republicans on Friday, House Speaker Mike Johnson said he wants a vote on the Senate deal Monday night. Johnson saying, I'm going to encourage you. No, I'm going to beg you to get back on Sunday night. It's very frustrating. I have been very frustrated by all of this, but I've got to tip my hat to the president. He knows the art of the deal.
It's unclear how many House members will support the revised package. Violent agitators arrested outside a federal detention center in L.A. last night. Thousands of protesters met in front of City Hall before marching to the detention center where a mob blocked the entrance to the building's loading dock. America is listening to Fox News.

Fox News.
