A former New York City police sergeant has been sentenced to three to nine years in prison for tossing a cooler full of ice and drinks at a suspect who was running from him, then crashed his scooter and died. Eric Duran was convicted in the manslaughter in the 2023 death of Eric Dupre. Duran says he was trying to protect other officers from the approaching scooter. A new documentary short chronicling actor Eric Dane's battle with ALS and quest for more research is set to be released later this year.
