The FCC reverses a decades-old ruling about equal time for political candidates on talk shows.
The FCC says late-night and daytime talk shows will no longer automatically qualify as bona fide news programs, which are exempt from rules requiring rival candidates get equal airtime. Talk shows have long relied on a 2006 ruling that allowed a Tonight Show interview with then California Governor Schwarzenegger to be exempt. The FCC now says that ruling does not set a blanket precedent for all talk shows, including The View, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and The Late Show, and is urging broadcasters to file the proper equal opportunity paperwork to comply with the law. Manhattan D.A. Alvin Bragg said Frederick Green was indicted on four charges, a count each of attempted second-degree murder and first-degree assault and two counts of second-degree weapons possession. Green allegedly shot Chris Boyd, a member of the New York Jets, following an argument and fights outside a Manhattan restaurant. Police said a day after the shooting, he hid in a female friend's apartment in Buffalo. Less than a month later, police, along with federal marshals, arrested Green after surrounding that apartment. Boyd, who continues to recover from his injuries, is still with the Jets franchise. Gernal Scott, Fox News.
