The mayor responds. I'm Lisa Lucera, Fox News. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Fry offers his take after Vice President J.D. Vance's visit to his city recalled for police cooperation.
Responding to Vice President Vance's claim that state and local leaders are at fault for chaos and should meet federal enforcers halfway, Mayor Fry said only if they're looking for criminals and killers. Our police officers and public officials do not work with any federal agency around immigration enforcement work specifically.
Fry said he wasn't asked to meet with Vance on lowering tensions, so he questions the visit. Is this political performance that is taking place in our city that is compromising our safety? or is this trying to achieve an end goal? Fry said the goal he wants is calmer streets and ICE agents headed home.
Chapter 2: What are the implications of the U.S.-China TikTok deal?
Fox's Colonel Scott. The U.S. and China have signed off on a deal to spin off TikTok from parent company ByteDance. The new venture is backed mostly by American investors, with ByteDance keeping a nearly 20% stake. 235 million people in 40 states in the crosshairs of what forecasters warn could be a historic winter storm.
A foot to a foot and a half of snow along the I-95 corridor, but it's the part of the storm to the south of there, this ice, that's going to be the huge problem. Anytime you get over half an inch of ice, that brings down a lot of branches on power lines. You get these extended power outages.
So this is going to be the devastating part of the storm, especially from just east of Dallas through places like Shreveport, Tupelo, maybe even Memphis, and then another spot down there in the southeast around Atlanta into the north. Fox Weather's Ari Sarsalari.
Chapter 3: How is the historic winter storm expected to impact the U.S.?
About 160 million people are under winter storm or cold weather. Watchers are warnings, and in many places, both. The storm expected to begin tomorrow in New Mexico and Texas, with the worst weather moving east into the deep south before heading north over the weekend. The death of a human immigrant held in solitary confinement at a Texas ICE facility has been ruled a homicide.
Chapter 4: What are the details surrounding the recent ICE-related deaths?
The El Paso County Medical Examiner's Office found that Geraldo Lunas Campos died after guards held him down and he stopped breathing. Campos' death on January 3rd is one of three in recent weeks at Camp East Montana on the grounds of Fort Bliss Army Base. Homeland Security officials said he was attempting suicide and the staff tried to save him.
In December, ICE announced the death of a Guatemalan immigrant at the camp. Cause of death is pending. And on Sunday, ICE announced that Victor Manuel Diaz, an immigrant from Nicaragua who was detained in Minneapolis, died at Camp East Montana on January 14th of a, quote, presumed suicide. The former school superintendent for Des Moines, Iowa, is pled guilty to falsely claiming to be a U.S. citizen on a federal forum and illegally possessing a firearm.
Chapter 5: What legal issues arise from the Florida fertility clinic lawsuit?
Ian Roberts had initially pled not guilty. Both counts carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. A Florida couple suing a fertility clinic after learning their newborn baby isn't theirs.
A new mother and father in Florida who conceived via in vitro fertilization are suing their doctor and their clinic after learning the baby born to them is not genetically theirs. The couple alleges Dr. Milton McNichol and Fertility Center of Orlando implanted the wrong embryo, something the couple only realized after delivering the baby and noticing the child was of a different ethnicity.
Genetic testing confirmed their suspicions. Florida law states the lawful parents of an IVF baby are the genetic parents, not the birthing mother. In Miami, Eben Brown, Fox News.
