For those without shelter, the intense cold can be fatal. Yesterday alone, before the snow had even begun to come down, at least five New Yorkers passed away and were found outside.
Storms also closed New York's LaGuardia Airport until further notice. Airlines have canceled more than 11,000 flights today across the country. Many Democratic senators say yesterday's fatal shooting in Minneapolis by a federal agent changed things, and they won't vote for a spending bill to avert a government shutdown because it funds ICE. Fox's Chad Pergram has more from Capitol Hill.
This bill funds 78% of the government. It includes money for DHS and the Pentagon. Independent Senator Angus King of Maine helped end the fall shutdown, but he will not vote yes this time because of ICE. New Hampshire Democrat Jeanne Shaheen did not respond directly when asked how she would vote.
People are outraged by what's happening in Minnesota and by the out-of-control officers, federal officers that they're seeing on the ground by this shooting.
