Tens of millions in the path of a major winter storm. I'm Lisa Lucera, Fox News. The storm expected to impact 40 states from New Mexico to New York, and the impacts could last for days. Arkansas and Virginia have joined Georgia, Texas, and South Carolina, declaring states of emergency.
Chapter 2: Which states have declared emergencies due to the winter storm?
When you talk about travel, that is expected to come to a screeching halt. Starting Friday, continuing into next week. The worst of the icing is expected to be centered around the I-40 corridor. I do think that the lower Mississippi Valley, an area that we need to watch very closely for ice that could amount to over an inch. It's in that zone that we're expecting to see widespread power outages.
So preparations are key. We're in the final phase right now of making sure you have what you need. to get through this storm and beyond into next week.
Fox Weather's Jane Menard. In the northeast, forecasters say historic snowfall is expected with about a foot of snow predicted for New York City. Once the storm blows through on Monday, forecasters warn of dangerously cold weather in much of the country. Vice President J.D. Vance visited Minneapolis this afternoon holding a roundtable with local leaders and the public.
He called on them to work with federal immigration officials instead of against them.
Working with state and local officials, we can make the worst moments of chaos much less common, and all they've got to do is meet us halfway.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Fry and Governor Tim Walz have called for ICE to leave the state.
