An illegal migrant from Afghanistan has died while in federal custody.
A 41-year-old Afghan man who once worked alongside U.S. forces in his country but who overstayed immigration parole in the U.S. and who was twice arrested for crimes died while in custody at a hospital. Mohammad Nazir Pakhtiowal had been in ICE custody in Dallas for less than a day on March 13th when he needed medical attention and was brought to Parkland Hospital. He died the next day. The death is under investigation. Pak Tiawal had been taken into custody due to his immigration parole ending last August. He was arrested twice last year, once for theft and once for welfare fraud. The federal work group has released a report that calls for changes in the way COVID vaccine harms are tracked.
The group that's calling for the sweeping change has drafted its policy for the Federal Advisory Commission on Immunization Practices, the panel that advises the government on vaccine policy. The report cites a 2023 survey conducted online and via telephone by Rasmussen, a conservative-leaning polling firm that says nearly one in four Americans reported knowing someone who died from a COVID vaccine, according to the New York Times. As a result, the work group wants better tracking and treatment of injury from the shots. Billions of people worldwide have gotten COVID shots, and last year the CDC told new members of the Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. 's Vaccine Committee that its databases had found no increased risk of death after COVID vaccinations.
