Why do the New York Giants need a new offensive coordinator?
in the heat of the day down in mobile alabama working on the railroad with a steel driving hammer i gotta get some money buy some brand new shoes try to find somebody take away these blues she don't love me here i'm singing in the sun pity coming when my work is all done
Welcome to Giants Nation. I'm your host, Bobby Skinner, here with my co-host, the football grump. This is our second take at this. We had a little mess up. I didn't have your audio loud enough. Senior Bowl Week 2026 coming to a close. The Giants need an offensive coordinator, which we always thought was going to be Todd Munkin. We did a lot of preparation for it to be Todd Munkin. I think the Giants were 99% expected to be Todd Munkin, but it is not Todd Munkin, so now we pivot.
What were the standout performances at the Senior Bowl?
Grump, how are you doing? How are you feeling?
Little bittersweet. We're flying high right now with Senior Bowl stuff, but I know as soon as we're done here, we're going to be packing up all this equipment for good for the week and heading home tomorrow morning. So in good spirits right now, but I know it's all going to be coming to an end.
Yeah, it's always the last episode of Senior Bowl week is, like, fun. We've got a good format for it. But it is a little bit like, damn, now we've got to wait a whole year to do this again. It's our most fun week of the year because it's just all ball, right? You know, training camp is extremely fun.
Which players could rise into the top 50 after the Senior Bowl?
But, you know, you're not learning much about new players after so on or whatever. And with a new coach, I'm sure it'll be way more exciting than, you know, year four Brian Dable, year two is Shane Bowen. But we're learning about new players. And then by day three, it's like we have our favorites. We're going to talk about them. We're going to go through the guys that are ranked in the top 50, guys who we think will get into the top 50, and just guys we just flat out like no matter where they're going to end up going in the draft. But first, we do have to talk about the Giants offensive coordinator situation. So Todd Munkin did get the Cleveland Browns head coaching job. Nobody expected that, I don't believe.
I don't think the Giants expected that. Because we were, you know, we did a Breaking Big Blue with Jordan on, and I asked him, I was like, do you think the Giants were, like, not ready for this?
Who were the notable Senior Bowl standouts and their potential impact?
And he said, no. We really haven't had any time to think about it because we've been doing the Senior Bowl stuff all week. And we were talking in the car today, like, You know what? I don't think they were prepared because here's the reason. They've had a couple weeks. They haven't interviewed anybody besides Willie Taggart and Robert Prince, who it's sad to say, but I think were just Rooney rule requirements. Prince even took another job before this job was filled, and Taggart has already agreed to be on the Giants coaching staff beforehand. And now we're getting these new interviews. So the Giants have interview requests that they interviewed Willie Taggart, Jim Bob Cooter, the Colts offensive coordinator, Alex Tanney, good friend Alex Tanney, passing game coordinator for the Colts, Davis Webb, another good friend of the New York Giants, QB coach and passing game coordinator for the Broncos, and then QB coach for the Chargers, Shane Day.
I don't think it's going to be Greg Roman. There was a good quote on Howard Eskin's show. John Harbaugh says, I don't want a one system guy who has his fit and you've got to build all the players to fit my system. I want a guy that can look at our players and say, okay, because Jackson Dart can live in different worlds. He can be under center. He can play action. He can drop back in the gun. He can run the RPOs.
What strategies do players use to connect with NFL teams during the draft process?
I like all the different things he can do.
What did the hosts experience during their week in Mobile, Alabama?
So I want to have a coach that reflects that ability that he has. So I think this will be a good search. Maybe it's coping. I'm kind of excited to see who our offensive coordinator is because that's what we like about John Harbaugh is his ability to hire the right people, his ability to hire a guy like Todd Munkin straight from college.
